How good are Bibs?
Just a question about the Bibs . I been using shorts for years. and no problems find them comfortable
what benefits do you all bib wearers find compared to regular shorts? do u find them hotter though in hot weather? when you have that extra material under your jersey? |
Pro: More comfortable.
Con: PITA when you need to use the restroom. |
|
...when you have to pee you find their challenges ..
|
They make me feel sexy.
|
I find them to be more comfortable with no tightness around my waist. They never slide down. When I need to go it is just "over the top".

Bibs are good when you tuck the annoying shoulder straps into the waist and turn them into shorts. All problems solved.
|
I don't get how having straps over your shoulders- one more thing to chafe/restrict/bother you is a good thing. Shorts work just fine for me. They don't slip, move or bother me any in any way. I've got one pair of bibs that I bought to try them, and only wear them when all the shorts are in the laundry.

I love that sensation of giving myself a wedgie.

toddles, go outside or something

Here we go again. Many folks think they are better for all riders. A few folks think they are worse for all riders. Many riders who have no trouble with standard shorts don't see the need and object to the unnecessary problems caused by the bibs. Every rider has to decide for him/herself whether they are of any value. Judging by their growing popularity, odds are you will like them. "Not I," said the duck!

Try a pair of bibs on a long ride, then do the same in shorts. See if you notice a difference. |
Bibs turn my junk magic. No kidding.
|
Only one way to find out. Try them. You may love them and you may not.
The question you ask is akin to me asking if chocolate ice cream is better than vanilla when I have always eaten vanilla and like it just fine. Capishe?? |
Another thing that I like about bibs is that I can put a few extra bananas under the webbing in the back under my jersey... they ripen faster.

Didn't know it worked that way, though. |
For me the absence of a waistband is a real benefit. My PI shorts were constantly rolling at the waist. My PI bibs don't. Then there's my Assos bibs which are awesome.
|
Coming from a mountain bike, i tought that bibs were useless until I tried them. What a great difference in confort*.
|
Once you try bibs you will never go back
|
I heard they might be a good idea if you don't like your tight waistband. Not sure where I heard this, though...
|
^^^ probably from an oaf.......

I prefer bibs for all the reasons above.
I have never experienced chaffing from the straps, or any other part of any bibs I own. When I started riding I had a pair of short, but waist band cutting into my abdomen, made my try bibs. My advice, like others, is to buy a pair, with a chamois you know and like, and see if they're for you. But remember, we told you so, and what are you going to do with all those uncomfortable shorts? ;) Pirk |
I use shorts for the short rides.
Bibs on the long rides. |
I have several pairs of both and don't notice either once I start riding - until I have to go
