Nope. I'm done. Delete it and my account, please. A few people did offer constructive advice, comments, and even data, but I do not need the arrogant drama of the rest. I'll go it alone.
Anyway, good luck and enjoy your rides. |

The average speed question is so common with no real answer that people tend to have fun with it and not treat it all that seriously. I don't know jack about planes, but what sort of response would I get if as a noob I went to flying forum and asked something like "what's the best altitude to fly at?" or similar?

If you asked that question in a flying forum, first, and most importantly, you would not be put down for asking the question. Likely, you would be asked about the type of plane you were flying, its capabilities, your intentions when flying, etc. Then you would have been given solid advice from patient, intelligent pilots with solid explanations for their opinions. And in no way would anyone have "had fun with the question" at your expense.
Stick around. :thumb: |

There are some here and in the 33 that can direct you where to get good advice on getting better at riding. Better is not just faster. It is many things that go into becoming an experienced cyclest. That will give you far more enjoyment on the bike than a floating number can. |
I'm 27, in reasonable shape and have been into road cycling about a year. I average between 16-20 mph on flat land and 12-15 riding mph on rolling hill roads. I've got a 12-25 cassette so the slowest my bike will even let me go up hills is 9-10 mph.

Dang! And just like that it's over ?? C'mon MAN !! |
my average speed is around 15ish on shorter rides and about 12 is on longer rides...all in rolling hills. on mountainous routes, it drops to about 10. i can't heave myself up mountains where it is non-stop climbing with no rest.

Good grief people, this isn't rocket science. If you go out on a normal day, take a ten mile ride at your normal pace, returning from where you started, then punch the button on your trip computer, what does it say your average speed was??? On my last ride, it was 12.35 MPH. Unless I push it, or piddle around on my ride, I'll be within one MPH of that every time. Gee, I'm sorry I asked. I expect semantics if I ask a political question, but not over something as simple as this. I hope it's just a Monday morning thing!
