Garmin Edge 510 vs. Sigma Sport Rox 10.0
I'm getting ready to purchase my second road bike and upgrading to carbon fiber and want a much better computer. My initial thoughts are that I just want to be able to track speed, distance, heart rate, and cadence. It seems both of these computers do both well.
Question is...since I've not had anything other than a basic computer before..is the extra money for the Garmin worth it? Is Garmin better?
Secondly, for folk who have a Garmin or even the Garmin 800/810...is it worth the extra money to have all the GPS and mapping features they seem to have. Right now I don't know that I'd want or need that functionality but is it something that you wish you had once I gain some experience with a better computer?

Vain, But Lacking Talent
Full disclosure: I work at a shop that sells Garmin (among other things), but not the Sigma computer and I don't know much about it other than what I saw on their website.
From what I can see of the Sigma, a better comparison would be the Edge 500. The 510 (which I own and love) and the 810 are great pieces of hardware, but I would liken it to owning a smartphone with a 50/50 shot of the next firmware causing some annoying bugs. I haven't heard the same griping from the 500 crowd. I'm not about to sell my 510 and buy a 500. I tend to wait a week or two after a firmware update is released and check the Garmin forums (they have a 510 specific forum) to see if anyone is having any major issues. The biggest one on the 510/810 was related to shortened distances, which also affected your average speed while using the course function for navigation. I think they finally fixed it, but it's not like the navigation didn't work, you just had less bragging rights if you were going to post it on facebook.
As far as navigation goes, I used navigation a lot when I had my Edge 200, and only a little bit with the 510. The Sigma or the 500 is probably more than sufficient because I'm assuming that you're carrying a smartphone with full access to maps 24/7. They really just give turn by turn directions for pre-uploaded rides, as well as a "back to start" function on the Garmin that would retrace your ride to the beginning. Never had to use that, but sounds handy anyway.
