Corrosion Issues With Alloy Handlebars
 

Took my handlebar wrap off today and saw where I have pitting on the aluminum bars. The pitting is worst around where the shifters mount. I guess due to dissimilar metals. These bars are only 1.5 years old and I don't ride that much but I do sweat a great deal. My question is would a carbon bar be less likely to corrode? Also do you have any recommendation for bars in the $100-150 range?

not all that unusual. google corroded handlebars and you may see a few pics of similar corrosion.i don't think carbon fiber bars would corrode for the same reason that yours have.

and, BTW, you might want to think about backing off a little on the jalapenos or whatever... :lol:

Too lazy to upload the photo now, but corrosion of al bars is a real issue, for sweaters, bikes on trainers, and coastal environments.

If any of those app,y to you, rewrap your tape and inspect regularly.

cf bars have their own issues, but they don't corrode.

Thanks for the responses. I did a little bit more reading on it and saw a few snapped bars due to corrosion. I decided to go with the FSA SL-K carbon bars. With discount I was able to get them from Nashbar for $112 with free shipping.
