Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I just picked up my new bike...FANTASTIC !!

Well, I finally did it!!!.....Thanks to all of you who gave me some very informative
input on the bike, pedals, and shoes. I appreciate all the replies to my threads.

Now, occupying a very special position in my garage, I'm pleased to introduce you all
to my brand new '05 Specialized Roubaix (Columbus SLX alloy frame with carbon fork,
seat post, and seat stays.....Shimano 105 and Ultegra drivetrain....Avatar saddle)
with Speedplay X-2 pedals and Specialized road shoes.

Unfortunately, the sun had already set by the time I got her home, so no riding tonight.
But, just wait till tomorrow... I'll keep you all posted with my initial impressions after
the first couple of hundred miles. It's great to be part of this forum. THANKS TO ALL !!

Way to go adam18, enjoy the bike!! Great choice on the speedplays, buy the $20 dollar cleat covers and never get off the bike without them. They will save wear on the cleat and prevent getting dirt in the spring. You got it just in time to enjoy a full season!!

Try not to pop before you get to ride it tomorrow, at least that's how I am. Very exiting.
I'm just curious, does the Roubaix Pro (carbon) frame and the Roubaix (Columbus SLX alloy frame) share the same geometry?

WOW !!!... It's great reading all your responses. I just finished my first ride.
A short 12 mile spin along some beautiful country asphalt. All I can say about
my new Roubaix is FANTASTIC. What a gorgeous ride, so much smoother than my 2001 Giant OCR 1. What a difference a proper custom fit makes. I'm on "cloud 9".
It's great knowing that there are a lot of other Specialized riders out there who
seem to share my same enthusiasm. I think that my new Roubaix is going to be
a wonderful bicycle for me. I'm looking foward to many hundreds of great miles.

Hi "Shifty"......Thanks for the advice. I bought the Speedplay cleat covers yesterday
when I picked up the bike. By the way, I couldn't help noticing your picture of Jerry.
I'm a tremendous DEAD fan myself. Loads and loads of concerts back in the good old days
(I'm 49), and CD racks full of "Dick's Picks" to relive it all over again. HAPPY RIDING !!

Dude (adam18) . . . you're getting some not-so-subtle hints here. We want pictures . . . and we want 'em soon.

Can you oblige?

Wait. I just read the last post by you. You get major slack (I've had this discussion before. I hit about 150 shows....), but we /still/ want the pictures

As soon as I figure out how to post the digital photos, I promise you all that
I'll show off my new bike. Actually, my wife is the computer geek, so she'll
figure it out. By the way, Neil0502, 150 shows is pretty impressive.
But here's one that'll be hard for you to beat. When I was on the concert board
at my alma mater (Harpur College), I had lunch with Bobby Weir and Jorma after
I helped to produce a Hot Tuna gig. Something I'll never forget, my friend.
Indeed, what a long, strange trip it's been.

You are a lucky, lucky dawg. I'm hoping he paid

My uncle and aunt always vacation in Hawaii. Two or three years ago, they learned that the couple over the hedge was Bobby and Natasha. My little (then maybe 13y) cousin wound up babysitting the little Weir-lings while B&N dined and partied.

btw: Should be seeing Mickey (Hydra) on 4/9. I'll give him a shout out for ya'. Just keepin' the memory alive!

Looking forward to seeing your new bike pic's. Ride safely!
