Buying Online From Singapore

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Buying Online From Singapore

Anyone have any positive experience to share buying accessories from Singapore-based online bike shops and shipping to USA? I see prices that are low but not too good to be true low.

I've never seen a report of a legitimate Singapore bike shop selling online, it's a really common scam. A good way to tell is to show some interest in buying a bike, if they send you instructions on how to do a wire transfer it's definitely a scam.

Have a friend who buys a lot from the UK, about 25% cheaper, no tax provided it comes in parts and not an assembled bike.

I can't say specifically, but I know Singapore is very business oriented, strictly governed and punishment for infractions is swift and harsh, which I imagine would be a deterrent to a scammer setting up shop there. This doesn't guarantee they're not scammers, but IMO significantly lowers the probability that they are.

Their site looks pretty legit.

Use PayPal and you have recourse if things go south.

Shipping is via EMS (we use this) so there is a tracking number and local delivery should be via your local postal service.

no issues here.

then again i've never bought specifically from a 'bike' store in singapore

I'm not sure how cheap can singapore go..
but..I use these
you can use a few websites to buy those cheap:
aliexpress - a branch of alibaba, the big chinese wholesaler
DX - mostly chinese made stuff, might have cheap stuff. (they are actually more expensive than aliexpress)
Ebay - mostly cheap stuff from china once again
Amazon - sometimes

I would say buy from amazon if you can, just because of the quick shipping. the other sites usually take around 1 month on free shipping...
