Also,
No commonwealth game TT spoilers, guys. Gonna cue it up when I get home in half hour or so. Probably gonna fall asleep promptly after first rider goes down the ramp but still... |
The retired guy apparently needs cream under his bibs.

Normally I am on top of every little detail in advance of my rides, but I've been swamped at work this week. Haven't even decided if I'm riding 70 mi or 100 on Sat. Just now getting around to checking the weather report for Big Bear this weekend. Yikes.

I think it might be a washout...

Its SoCal, so I'm guessing it might rain for 20-30 min then stop, then start again. Probably not a downpour. Some long descents, some curvy but nothing twisty or very steep. |

FFS, one of the Kenyan riders has had to abandon the time trial because his left pedal was coming off and when they tried to retighten it they stripped the allen wrench side of the crank arm. (I have to say the person wielding the tool didn't look any too confident in their handling of it.) They got him a second bike but his cleats wouldn't work with it. Announcer keeps commenting that the Kenyans traveled without a mechanic. And there were no mechanics in Glasgow who would volunteer to serve in that capacity? One of the riders from Malawi is on a bike donated by a local shop when they found his original bike too difficult to repair. Who organized these games? Rarely have I seen such a "We've got a barn so let's put on a show" production on a non-local level. And why is India taking part? I thought they could not have been happier to see the backsides of the departing British.

Thank you, thank you so very much, I ...I just don't know....Oh thank you all for seeing the talent, the work, the good luck.
I'd like to thank my Mom and Dad for being there, for being such models of snarkiness, I couldn't have done it without you, Mom, Dad, wherever you are out their in this great universe, thank you. My wife, your love and patience, you have been soooo kind, soooo encouraging, how could I even face a day of snarking without your love and support. I'd like to thank Professor Baranak in cardiac surgery, he is my role model, the snark was an unknown idiom before Professor Bob came into the world. He showed me how, in anger, in love, in admiration, in emergencies where all seems lost, he showed me just how to wield the snarky reply and to use it in such a way that the recipient would even fail to recognize just how badly they had been snarked. For members and voters of the Academy Of Snarkiness, I can only say that I feel unworthy when there are so many excellent snarkers out there, Bdop, Wi-Fi, Ruokie and least we forget- the most excellent purveyors of snark that have sadly been absent- the absolute King- pcad and his worthy competitor- Whoooshie and who can forget Botto. Only in their absence could I even be considered. Again , thank you, thank you....thank you....Oh My... you actually Like me, you Do, You actually Like me! |

At the coffee shop; make it a triple shot of that stuff. Oh, crap, just give me the 4th shot, too.

@Heathpack, with that weather forecast, I would forgo a climbing trip and instead do more of a flatland/valley trip with the Sparrow. Open up some miles on it, stay in the shelter of valleys, go for longer mileage on it than you have done. The gearing then won't be an issue, and it gives you some bonding time.

@WhyFi The Hwy 61 stretch is flat, but it winds through valleys so is kind of nice to look at. It's a busier highway, but is part of the MRT so has wide spacious shoulders (you could probably ride side by side with another cyclist on the shoulder). The CR 5 section is why I want to do the loop again. CR 5 has no shoulders, but very little traffic. There are homes and farms out there, but nothing else. There are the two solid (for MN) climbs and one really fast decent. Once you climb up to Hwy 58 you again have a busier road with wide shoulders. You should be able to bomb down that highway pretty quick since it is almost entirely a gradual downhill all the way back to Red Wing. When I combine the two loops I'll be turning left at Pioneer Rd (the first light on Hwy 58) and taking that down to Bench St (Pioneer dead ends) where I will turn right to get to Hwy 61 to reconnect with the other loop. Pioneer Rd going that direction has a fast windy downhill that I'm looking forward to. Hopefully no one is turning left at the bottom of the hill... I'm thinking lunch at the Smokin' Oak on the way out of RW since they have a decent patio and good food. I also think I'll substitute the "Casino Royal" climb with the longer more gradual Hwy 61 climb and then head right, down CR 19 to connect with CR 18. That's another long windy fun decent. I just realized that windy has three meanings in cycling; crappy headwind, fun tailwind, fun twisty downhill stretch. |
