Where to buy a Trek Madone online?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Where to buy a Trek Madone online?

Hi

I'm living in Denmark and really loves the new Trek Madone 5.2. However, the price for this bike in Denmark is around $4500 which is much for a student. I know the price in the US is around $2600 so I would like to know if there are any online dealers where I can purchase the Madone for that amount of money??

Best regards

Haastrup, Denmark

I don't think Trek allows dealers to sell online so unless you get it off eBay or something I think you are out of luck. What is the shipping on a bike to Denmark? Maybe you could get some sucker...like me...to buy one here and ship it to you...paid in advance of course.

I don't know what the shipping cost is, but I'm sure it can't be more than $1900, so I should get the bike cheaper than at my local dealer

I think the Kronar is pretty strong too so you make out on the exchange as well. What import taxes would you pay? Too bad you didn't post this 2 months ago I was just in Copenhagen a month ago.

I would have to pay 25% in tax of the value of the package including shipping cost. I'm not sure if there is anything else I would have to pay for, but I don't think there is. Yeah it would have been nice if you could have had a bike with you to Denmark, that's for sure

You are looking at $3750 USD assuming the shipping costs around $400, which is probably more than it would, after taxes.

It looks quite right. I think I'll try to get a discount at my local dealer first. Right know I wished I lived in the US or a least could travel over there I by the bike and take it home myself and save shipping costs and taxes.

Anyway...thanks for the help so far Grasschopper. I appreciate it

If you time it right airfare should be findable for under $1,000. It seems like if that lets you avoid taxes also you could make a weekend trip, pick the bike up and then fly home.

When we did the trip airfare out of our little town to Copenhagen was $675 so he should be able to get to DC or NY pretty easy for less than that.

Buy the bike...ride it for the weekend and you have yourself a used bike.

De would only be a couple hours drive from either NY or DC. The key is those are the cities he would be flying into the US. If he didn't bother to rent the car to get to a tax free state he would probably make up for the tax.

Haastrup, have you thoroughly checked the Danish market? I mean, a $4500-$2600 gap is a bit hard to believe.

One of the price fighters here in the Netherlands (which is not a particularly cheap country) has the Madone 5.2 on his site. The 'catalogue price' for the frameset is 2000 Euro; a full build with Ultegra 9spd: 3000 Euro. And there will be a considerable discount.

We Dutch people often check out German on-line stores (I can give you some links, if you want), since they are notably cheaper than ours. I guess you could do the same; within the European Union you do not pay extra taxes anyhow.

Good luck with your quest!

(Too bad this is all for a Trek Why don't you get yourself something a bit more special?)

I don't know the time I was in Copenhagen I saw thousands of bikes but only 1 trek and it was a MTB. Now Centurian, there is a name I saw a lot.

At my local store the Madone is sold for 26.000 Danish Kroner which is around US $4500. I'm pretty sure, but I will check the price tomorrow. I hope I'm wrong and it was the 5.9 I saw, but I doubt it. At trekbikes.com the price of the Trek 1500 is $1100 in Denmark the same bike costs around $2000. That's nearly twice as much.

I would really like some links from you Bruco. It's a lot easier for me to go to Holland or Germany than go to the US.

for that price, you can get a nice custom frame made and shipped. why the trek madone? it's a nice bike, but is it really worth all that trouble? If your willing to spend that kind of cash on a bike, you should really look into a custom bike.

Or, if you are sure about your size and do not insist on buying 'personally', they will send you the bike for a decent fare.

Okay, here I will list some of the cheaper Dutch and German outlets. You can check for yourself whether they have what you want and whether the price is right.
