Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Today i rode 25 miles from san jose to palo alto. The weather was 59F cloudy with light winds. Also today i bought a 2014 Surly Cross Check touring bike for doing long distance riding and other stuff. I then rode it 38 miles from palo alto and around the baylands and then back to san jose. It was listed at 1499$ but i got it for 1199$ plus i bought some other things too.

hey! Cross Check ain't no touring bike! - but i'm thinking of doing the same thing. not as beefy as the LHT, but the Cross-Check seems to fit fenders and fat tires pretty well. post pics when you got them

i road 80 miles today - all pavement - coffee in Chelsea, MI - Good times with pretty good friends.

Today i rode 78 miles from san jose to belmont and back, the weather was 55F dark then sunny with light winds. I started at 3am in the morning and finished at 2 pm with breaks. I also bought some silver fenders, a bell, front and a safety triangle yield sign for my bike. I am not a fast rider but still enjoy biking, next month will be my fifth anniversary of my adult biking.

Today was another trip up the west side of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park - it opened this weekend for the season. Still crazy snow up there, but melting fast as we've had our first really warm days of the spring this weekend.

Hopefully by the end of this summer I can manage the round trip up the west and back from the east in one ride.

Today i rode 85 miles from san jose to palo alto then over the bridge to fremont and around the levees and back to san jose. The weather was 54-64F sunny with light winds. I tried to mount two bottle cages on the front rack mount location. I went offroading and i sheared on of the bottle cages and bottle of and lost it. Also i bought some extra tubes, i carry now five of them. I got to 200 miles in three days! This month is my 5th year biking with over 34,000 miles!!!

Today i rode 100 miles with my friend for bike connection, we started at 9 am and finished at 6pm about. We had lunch at a taqueria in san mateo, then had dessert at a ice cream shop in palo alto with a visit to a new apple store, we looked around at all the shiny new products and expensive prices. I started at 3am and killed time till the start of the ride by riding around. The bike is getting more comfortable and i even slammed the stem for a more aggressive stance.

Today i rode 67.8 miles with my cross check touring bike. I rode from san jose to redwood city and back. I swapped from clipless pedals to flat pedals and shoes to revisit my old challenge but this time i am going to try to do a 100 miles in one go. My feet are going to kill me but others have done it, so can i and i want to test my cycling endurance with a different pedal style. Also while i was riding on the alviso trail offroad i lost a rear light and a chainring bolt, i zip tied the light to the fender for better visibility.

People from work, staff at Brattleboro Union High School, did a 20 mile loop from school, out through Guilford Vt and back through west Brattleboro. Much of it was nicely paved, empty roads, a good bit was empty smooth gravel roads, nice long climbs and nice long downhills. We passed the Green River Covered Bridge, countess small ponds, beautiful fields and forest. . . . We had a Golden Lab accompany us up the long gravel climb. . . .
We remarked that people put their bikes on their cars and drive for hours to get here. We left work and disappeared into the hills of southern Vermont and were still home for diner. Weather was perfect. Made you thankful for being a cyclist.

Today i rode 70.8 miles with my cross check in flat pedals from san jose to palo alto then over the bridge to fremont and back, the weather was 55-73F through out the day. Also my left knee started to hurt pretty badly throughout the ride, it made the ride less fun. I was so close to getting a century but next maybe. The bike is doing good.

75 miles (mostly) coastal san diego. felt like mostly flats at the start so hit mission bay area but quickly got bored with the flat stuff
so hit the hills of the la jolla area and rode north to solana beach via the coast highway. a little lunch break at pizza port then another
two miles north before heading east and meandering thru rancho santa fe. took a combo of el camino real/5 fwy/rose canyon bike path
back to mission bay area the thru mission valley to home. cold at the start so had a thicker jacket on, warmed up substantially once
the clouds broke so i got a little overheated but turned cold again for the last 2 hours so i made the right choice to rock the jacket.
mixed in some new roads which is always a goal.

Today i rode 60.7 miles from san jose to east palo alto and back. The weather was 54-75F through out the day. I stopped at JIB for a large Oreo milkshake (1150 calories). Also i liking the flat pedals a little more now, i am going to see if i can last a month with them on. I might challenge myself to wear normal shorts instead of cycling specific shorts or will that chave? So far my record on flat pedals is 78 miles with low discomfort in the feet. Till next time, oh yea i am having less knee pain to day from yesterday.

70 miles & 1st fall

A new PR and a first I didn't want....just 3 riders doing a birthday ride and we got into each other - myself and the birthday boy went down. Kind of embarrassing with just 3 but I was holding my line on the left of my buddy in front of me, when he moved into me to miss some rough road. I tried to go left with him and got into the b-boy. Luckily I wound up in a ditch on the right and didn't get any road rash but I fell hard on my hip and I'm limping around tonight. I have 2 numb finger too...not sure where that came from. Broken blinky and I needed to straighten my seat and bars before continuing. Luckily it happened at mile 63 and we limped on in - It could have been a lot worse. Where - country roads in 4 counties.

Got in 30 miles today, longest ride since I dealt with a collapsed lung. Feeling good and really enjoying the saddle time.

Had a nice ride with my friends from JSTS. We rode 33 miles with an average of 17mph around Holmdale, NJ. They said it wasn't hilly but there were a couple of dozzies haha.

Today i rode 102.5 miles from san jose to SF and then took the Caltrain to palo alto and rode back home to san jose with a detour of san tomas trail, mostly in 80F weather. Also i ate about 2500 calories and burned 3000 calories. I switched back to clipless pedals/shoes because my knee problem , i was pushing to hard on the pedals. The bike is up to 53lbs including all the panniers and stuff loaded on it. 3rd street in to San Francisco was a hard 20 degree climb for .5 mile.

Today i rode 53.4 miles from san jose to palo alto then over the bridge to newark where i hung out with a friend watching "shooter" and eating JIB. Then i rode back to palo alto and took the Caltrain back to san jose. I also dropped by cardinal bikes to swap out my stiff saddle for a used soft one. I have done 700+ miles in 11 days.

Today i rode 60 miles using the Guadalupe river trail and the coyote creek trail. The weather was about 60F with light rain and winds. I am slowly getting use to the cyclocross gearing and shifters.
