SRAM Red Black Edition???
 

Hey, do any of you guys use,or have any experience with these components...ideally,the derailleurs? I have a chance to get one pretty cheap...like $45. It's this one...

Can you tell me if it's even worth it? Also,I plan to use it on the Kestrel Talon I'm building into a TT bike. I'll be going all SRAM Red if I end up getting this fd.

You are letting which FD you get determine the rest of your build?

FWIW, I gave that derailleur away because I hated it so much - front shifting was awful. Everything else about that group worked just fine. Replaced it with a Force FD and all was well.

There's a reason why that FD is probably cheap...

The entire SRAM Red Black is a very good group, except the FD. The titanium outer cage is flexy and even after having it adjusted correctly, it still drops the chain or overshifts (chain suck) every now and then. Just happened to me again (chain suck) this morning.

Many use a chain catcher with a Red Black Edition FD. Even the newer Red Yaw FD (aluminum outer cage) now comes with an integrated chain catcher.

Others change out the FD to a Force FD (steel cage) which shifts a lot better.

Agree. Ti cage shifts rather poorly. I have one that I'll let you have cheap. There are some Red FDs that have steel cages and these are fine. New Yaw FDs have a combo steel alloy cage that works very well.

I have one and it works fine. Like all fd's, make sure you properly set the limit screws and tension or have someone qualified do it for you

If you want to get Red, I'd highly recommend the newer set up with the yaw FD and the improved chainrings. Front shifting is dramatically better than it was. If you want to use Red Black, you can still get the yaw FD, or get a Force FD if you want to use the fix that everybody else used before Yaw came out.

Not necessarily so mate. I would just prefer to go with either all Shimano or SRAM. Sorry, I didn't clarify that.

I'll do some more research on the drivetrains before I make a decision. I don't want to get something because it's cheap.I mean, that's not always a good thing. It's like e-guevara said..."There's a reason it's so cheap". Great insight buddy. Thank you.

I'm not married to SRAM, so I could very well get Shimano. But vids make it seem like SRAM is a good product...as well as looking good. So I thought I'd give it a try.
