Wow, glad you are ok.

Duane Behrens 08-10-14 08:48 PM

What setup had ye? One time my LBS convinced me I could install a new 12x30 rear cassette and mate it to the original short-cage RD and 53x39 FD without replacing the chain or derailleur . . . and without issue.

Turns out, there were issues.

I agree with you. I wouldn't try to recover that frame with two problems. If you're the original owner, see if Scott will replace the frame. If you're not the original owner, I'd just look on ebay for a replacement frame and start from there. At some point you have to ask, "is my life worth the cost of a frame?"

it was and i mean "was" all good ,12-25 with 39/53, I"am already looking foward to my next build , oh and the carbon fork is already off the bike and listed on ebay:D

Dave Cutter 08-10-14 09:15 PM

A slight bump while under stress might have jumped the chain into the spokes. I can't think of another action that could have caused the damage. Those dork disc's only need to work once to make up for their "look". Bummer about the bicycle. Glad you're OK.

If the hanger wasn't split (didn't notice that in the slightly blurry pic until it was pointed out by the OP), then something like this would be the fix for the hanger: Wheels MFG Drop Out Saver For Thick > Accessories > Tools > Frame Tools | Jenson USA

I'll have a moment of silence for your loss.

If you weren't shifting how would the chain just come off the big cog into the spokes? And how did that rip the braze on rivets out of the tube and move the chain from the small ring up and over the big ring?

To OP, glad you're ok, sorry for your loss though...

I love the look of the original version of the CR1 and have been wanting to buy an old frame off ebay, but the non-replaceable hanger is the big reason I don't.

Hey op, i know this is off topic, but how do you like those vuelta corsa superlites? Im getting a set at the end of the month and am excited like a fat kid in a candy shop!! Will shave over 400 grams off me bike!

slowride454 08-11-14 11:13 AM

They give a good ride and you Cannot beat them for the price and weight ! Check into Topolinos as well they weigh in around 1525g , I had a set on my Cannondale System Six , those where the best wheels I ever had ridden on , a used set very seldom pop up on EBay, I watched for a month until some listed and I hit the buy it now button very quickly , they normally price out around 400.

A friend of mine has a Scott frame that had a failure that left the RD inoperable. Not as bad as the OP, thankfully, but leaves one wondering about these particular CF frames..

I"am not into the single speed thing , but this thing would make one crazy light SS ! I might put it on ebay for someone into that scene, frame , fork and headset with a Bontrager 100mm stem and let them know with pictures of the hanger, so keep a eye out for it on eBay soon , very soon !

joejack951 08-11-14 07:29 PM

If you had been concentrating on riding and not on doing Candace, this probably wouldn't have happened! :roflmao2:

In the photo of the bike from a few weeks ago, the bike is cross chained from the large chainring to the large cog. There is a lot of tension on the rear derailleur if the chain is short. If you rode the bike in this configuration and the chain is short, failure could have happened with either derailleur.

cderalow 08-15-14 06:46 AM

part it out/keep bits for rainy day and make the frame wall art.

not sure how you completely snapped the lower pulley on the derailleur clean off.

Johnny Rad 08-15-14 10:28 AM

If you look closely enough, you can see the crack on the seat tube right at the FD tab in the pic you shot a week before the accident. Just saying.

Just kidding - duh. Happy shopping! You sticking with Scott or looking elsewhere?
