My first attempt at a group ride video

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My first attempt at a group ride video

i went on a ride with the local Performance Bicycle crowd as i usually do on sundays and this is my first attempt at a video using my new gopro hero 3+ black edition. i used iMovie for the editing and just used a combination of stock audio for the sound. everything is in real time. no speed up or slow down. let me know what you guys think.

be sure to watch it in 1080p.

Pretty cool. I have never done that ride before. On their site they have the Sunday ride listed as a D pace beginners ride. Is that why the four of you did most of the ride alone, you guy's left all the beginners?

Is that shore drive at 1:14?

we tend to kind of drift into two separate groups. the faster bunch will usually run a B to a B+ pace and usually hit an A pace on some of the smoother streets. and yes, that is shore dr at 1:14. the ride in the video (today) we ran an overall average pace of 19.3ish over 22 miles, to give you an idea. it is technically a no drop ride. atleast one performance employee will be on the ride and will generally stay back with the slowest rider while the others take off. we have a couple loop points where we will stop to catch a quick break and let people catch up. its good fun. you should come out next weekend

Nice video! I'd like to make something like this some time. I was about to ask the details of the ride (i.e. distance, avg speed) but I saw you put that on the YouTube page. How long did the ride take you guys? What kind of elevation changes were there (didn't look like much from what I could tell)?

I can answer that, Virginia Beach is FLAT. I have not done this particular ride but I have done rides out there and some of them have covered parts of the course in the video. Really flat area to ride.

edit: just checked my garmin for my last Va Beach ride. 40 miles and a whopping 48ft of climbing.

Video is great although I don't usually care for helmet cam video. A little surprised you guys blew through those stop signs (insert smiley face here).

the 22 miles took us 1hr07min with only about 135ft og elev gain. not much. very flat. only "climbs" we have is the bridge overpass that i hauled ass down and some rolling hills in the tree lined park

i have a stem mount too but wanted to do helmet for this ride. we normally do stop for all signs but these were on a little to no traffic service road with wide open viewing so we felt it was safe to maintain our pace and go on through

It is strange watching videos of areas without bike lanes. It's something we take for granted here in So Cal, though we still have a few roads here that are not so equipped.

Still a cool video. Looks like the kind of route that you could really get moving on in a well tuned group. Some of the areas, the passing cars are appear to be just barely doing so. If you ever visit the lower end of the left coast, let me know and I can show you some of the routes we have here.

The one at 4:17 made me a little nervous with a car on the left.

Yup, even Williamsburg/Jamestown has some nice routes but I admit Richmond is nice. Will you guys be setup or have reps at the Martins Tour of Richmond this year?
