How fast have you gone on a downhill descent

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What's this about over 30 being scary? Bikes get more stable with speed, you only fall over when you go too SLOW. I was topping out in the upper 30's in middle school on a Schwinn Traveler (with aero bars). That was on a nice downhill in my parents neighborhood in suburban Northern Va. I would make several runs down that road each bike ride!

Later in life, moved west and hit 47 or so on the same bike in Northern Id where they have real hills.

Now in Mi (what's a hill?) and getting back in shape so mid 30's is about typical top speed on the parts of road that have an incline in the downward direction. Working to improve that, but don't see 40's coming without more gravational assistance.

Some of the worst crashes are on downhills. I know of several riders who have permanent body injuries due to getting hit by cars while descending. I descend with safety in mind. Every once in a while, I will find a descent that is free of traffic and will get up to 45 mph.

Spooner Summit descending into Emerald Bay, Nevada is a pretty nice, smooth runout.

90km/h (56mph). I have no desire to break that record.
