Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What is the weather like where you are?

What is the weather like where you are?

And most importantly ... is it good cycling weather?

If not ... what is your ideal cycling weather?

It's HOT! 95F today. It will be HOTTER as the week progresses. Summer has finally come to Alabama.

The heat only bothers me on a long climb when there is no shade and no wind.

Here in Sacramento (CA, USA) it's currently high 80s (deg F) to low 90s. It's almost ideal weather, except lately the wind has been coming up a bit more than I prefer (10 - 20 mph) . A few weeks ago, on my commute home, my Garmin showed it started at 109 deg f and got as high as 116 (though I could have sworn I saw it hit 118, but maybe I was hallucinating by then); that was too hot.

hot as balls. Hovering around 100 all week with high humidity. Ah, summer in South Carolina. I'll ride in it if I get feel like riding. Usually won't do a group ride this hot (or I will find some people who want to hit the trails instead), but commuting isn't too bad. The mornings have been pleasant, and the afternoon commute is easily followed by a cold beer and cool shower.

A high of 13*C (55*F), overcast and threatening to rain all day today... great riding weather but my ideal is somewhere between 15-20*C (59-68*F).

The last couple weeks in the mid Atlantic have been 5-10 degrees cooler than normal. I would rather have it warmer than cooler pretty much any time of the year. The riding has been so good all summer I look forward to an occasional rain day as an excuse for a day off

Today was the coolest it's been in months, about 90 degrees with patches of light rain. It was a nice change from Phoenix summer weather.

60 degrees fog until 930. 930 to 11 it's around 70 but slightly overcast. Burns off and 70 to 80 until 2 or 3. 80 and getting breezy until 5. Starts to cool but windy until sunset. It's also dry and not humid.

We're having a little preview of spring.

It's 15°C right now, and still going up. The predicted high is 17°C ... and it is supposed to be like this for the next week. Blue skies, sunshine, light wind, and warm temps ... very nice for cycling.

Personally, I prefer it quite a bit warmer ... high 20s/low 30s ... but I'll happily take this right now.

100 and 20mph winds yesterday at 5pm in Dallas. Dew point was around 65-70 deg. Bleh. Was pretty wiped all day today after doing 25 miles with a few short hills.

It's freaking beautiful here.

Unfortunately, I can't take advantage of it.

Tornados, a hurricane, baseball size hail, heat wave and floods. Still managed a 24mph average on my short 75 mile ride with only 8200 feet of climbing.

Yesterday I rode in the high desert of Ridgecrest, CA. It was 70 with wind out of the west at about 10 mph when I started at 0600. At the finish at 0730 it was 82 headed for the high 90's. Very nice during the ride. Not so later in the day.

This evening I rode in Newport Coast, CA, starting at 1730, and it was high 70's and blowing about 10 mph out of the west. Finished at 1915 and it was around 70. Perfect.

I'll ride virtually anytime. My records are 16 and 119. My preference is mid 50's to mid 80's.

Rode my mountain bike last weekend at 10am...it was already 100 degrees. I've been riding my road bike during the week at night as of late.

My perfect riding weather is maybe in the 60's...winter temps in So Cal.

Awesome cycling weather right now. Highs in the 70-80s. In the morning.. around 50s. It's cooled off in the past couple of weeks. it was 10 degrees hotter earlier. California has the best weather.

Hot and humid now, typical NC summer.
I try to ride early if it's going to be hot or just for an hour or so if I ride at lunch.

My perfect riding weather would be when temps are in the upper 50s/low 60sw at the beginning of a ride and around 70 at the end.

Mid 90's, humid as hell, and sun scorching your back down here in Central Florida but riding is still enjoyable as long as you get an early start and keep moving. Can't wait for fall when it's in the 70's and low humidity.

I see you are in San Diego, I enjoy that city. Its either there or Albuquerque, New Mexico if I had to move somewhere from Seattle. I do hear that from too much sunshine claim but its hard to imagine where I am from.

Put your trainer in a sauna. Crank that sonbytch all the way up. Turn on a hair dryer and aim it at your face. Now ride in the same gear for hours.

Unusually cool summer here near Atlanta, not hotter than low to mid 90's, with consistent cloud cover and cool breezes. I'm told that we experienced a "drought" in early summer, even though we had near-record rainfall to June and it rains every few days - I don't think that "drought" means what the locals think it means.

Even with the occasional thunderstorms I can't complain about this near-perfect summer weather.
