Custom Kits
I've been invited to design several custom kits for a military related race community (cycling, triathlon etc). This past years kits were done by Champion Systems which are ok, but I find the leg grippers a little too snug. Before I commit to Champion for 2015 I wanted to see if anyone had experience with any other manufacturers like Hincapie etc. How was the design process, proofing, quality of kit and pricing etc. And if there are any current or former Navy Rescue Swimmer out there you'll want to hit me up on this one, I'll be glad to give you the details.
Thanks All! |
Primal Wear does a lot of custom work. I have a couple of their jerseys -- they are as good as any.
Primal Wear Cycling Apparel | Jerseys, Shorts, Bibs, & Kits - Est. 1992 Colorado |
I bought a jersey from a century I did recently. It's a Hincapie and it's significantly nicer (IMO) than the various champ systems ones I have. It's got that nice 3d woven feel to it rather than just a flat synthetic fabric. I can't help you with the pricing or design process though, sorry, nor the shorts (although the finished product was reasonably priced)

Check out squadra, I'm ordering a kit from them now.

We use 83 Sportswear for our team kit. Reasonable pricing, small minimum qty, decent templates. My wife is a Tech Illustrator, so she does all our design work, and they got our first order right with only one minor correction.

If it is for the military, we must provide Rapha or at least Assos.
|
Another option is Massachusetts-based VOMax.com. I used them to create jerseys for our small 10-person club this summer and they came out really well. The templates were easy enough to work with. Proofs came in the form of a half-scale DTG fabric piece. The final sublimated jerseys & bibs were extremely close. Once everything was approved we had the jerseys in hand within two weeks.

Custom Kits
Our team uses Squadra. Nice clothes reasonable price and the team store is easy to deal with

The shop I ride with has done their kits with Hincapie, but their sizing jumps around from year to year. Their quality is ok.
I'd agree that Voler is worth looking at. Also take a look at Mumu cycling apparel. Their kits are my favorite - great quality, fit, comfort. They do FloridaVelo's, Aeropro's, Gourmet Cycling Travel, etc.... They would be at the top of my list if the price is right. It is a local shop in Lecanto, FL. |

It's for a Navy Rescue Swimmer endurance sport community. Mostly made up of current and former Navy Rescue Swimmers that are into cycling and running. They were gracious enough to allow me to join, I wasn't a Rescue Swimmer but I am former Naval Aircrewman and father to a current Navy Rescue Swimmer that's in the group. Does Rapha do tri kits as well?

never used them but Rock Racing has some cool camo kits

My club uses voler and we are pretty happy with them. The cost is reasonable.
|
Another vote for Voler -- they're made in the USA, if that matters, and have a fairly wide size range including larger women's sizes, which if this is a community-type group rather than an all-racer group may be helpful.

Another +1 for Voler. The club I belong to just finished a complete redesign of our kits, and we've used Voler for years and found them very easy to work with (last week we had a rep from the company do a fit clinic for us where he brought samples of every size and fabric).
