DA vs FSA Team Carbon Crank???
 

How does the DA crank set compare with FSA team issue carbon crank? Thanks for the advice.

They're both great. I have the FSA Superlight, which, if used with the FSA Platinum Pro Ti BB, is a bit lighter than the new DA crank setup. The new DA though, does have the outboard bearings, which can now also be had in the FSA line.
I think at that level, it is just a matter of preference. I test rode a bike with the new DA crank last year, and honestly didn't notice a differance from my Superlight. Of course, it is hard to tell when the frames were diffrant, since all frames flex differantly.

But as far as cranks go, they are both very stiff, and have little troubles. Just depends on whether you want alloy, or carbon. I know one fella who sells components online, and he has both, and says he prefers the carbon. He says it seems stiffer for some reason. That's his opinion FWIW. I think it is possible the FSA may be a little stiffer, since the DA is so hollowed out to make it lighter, they may have sacrificed a little strength for weight in that case. In reality, I think the new Ultegra crank is probably stiffer, since it isn't hollowed out quite as much, and has a little more metal in it. But, it is heavier.

Can't really compare the DA to the Team Carbom Crank as one has outboard bearings and the other doesn't. How about DA to FSA SLK or K-Force, both of whih have the Megaexo BB with outboard bearings.

I switched to the SL-K and they made the BB my TCR Comp rock solid. No flex, no creak, no chain rub.

FSA now has Bottom Brackets with outboard bearings which can be used with any of their ISIS cranks, including the Team carbon, and carbon Superlight.

Speaking of outboard bearings sinec when are ISIS/octalink BB's wearing out really fast?

Because the stiffness difference between an ISIS BB and the Mega EXO is miniscule (they both have oversize axles)


Which BB's are those? (just curious)

I like my 180mm ISIS crankset and I don't plan on selling it for a long time.

The stiffness is miniscule, and reviews on the ISIS BB are just fine. They generally last as long as any other, as long as they are not abused or beaten with a hammer. Remember, all BB's were like this until the outboard designs came out just last year. We've been using internal bearing BB's for decades.

They are heavier anyway. Besides, you can bet they are going to come out with one for roadies soon anyway.

That's true, but the old BB's were 17mm axle square taper and they left more room for bearings in the shell.

That being said I haven't heard of any FSA ISIS BB failures.
