climbing and back pain

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

climbing and back pain

I have thoroughly enjoyed breaking in my new allez. However, the other day when I was climbing out of one town, when I was probably half way up and out of the saddle, my back started to hurt a bit. I dont know if it was normal workout pain from not having been used to climbing, but it started to hurt (lower back). Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? I did stay seated for as long as I could, but after a while my core was absolutely shredded, and I wanted to get up out of the saddle (im used to riding most of my climbs out of the saddle from riding on my ss).

I only did two climbs that day, and according to mapmyride it was only cat4 climbs =[. Feel so weeeeak.

I have a herniated disc that has always given me issues. When I climb I can definitely fell it more than when I don't.
