km on main bike

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

km on main bike

How many km do you have on you MAIN bike. I am approaching 45K km on my Master and have or had others in the rotation for various duties since it's purchase. After talking with a few other more or less "roadies" I get the feeling most get new rides after 20K-25K km.

My last road bike was retired at just over 100k miles, and that was only because it fell off a bike carrier onto a freeway.

20-24,000km is annual mileage.

I lost count after switching bike computers several times, but it's probably somewhere between 20k and 30k since I bought it in February 2012. I'm logging everything to Strava now so that will help me keep track for the future.

Machak, my Marinoni Ciclo had about 50,000 km on when he was stolen in 2010. Since he came back a year ago, I've put a little over 100 km on ... he needed a bit of TLC.

The rest of my bicycles have a bit less than that only because I've divided my cycling more evenly between them, and they've been acquired more recently.

3 years later ...

Rowan (the Rowan who posts in the Addiction thread, my husband) was looking for a wheel on ebay. As he scrolled through, all of a sudden he recognised my wheel ... the wheel that was on Machak. He recognised it because he had built me that wheel as my "engagement ring".

A little more searching .. and there was the rest of Machak.

He immediately notified the police, and a little over a week later, I had Machak back.

He was in surprisingly good condition ... like he had been kept inside most of the time. But he needed a little bit of work just before he was stolen, and there were several additional things which needed to be fixed up when he came back.

I just turned 10,000 km on my LHT in about 2 years of total riding in fours years of ownership. More than any other bike I have ever owned.

We scouted Ebay fairly regularly, but this was 3 years later.
