Thoughts on non-kit wearing cyclist.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rule #38 // Don’t Play Leap Frog.
Train Properly: if you get passed by someone, it is nothing personal, just accept that on the day/effort/ride they were stronger than you. If you can’t deal, work harder. But don’t go playing leap frog to get in front only to be taken over again (multiple times) because you can’t keep up the pace. Especially don’t do this just because the person overtaking you is a woman. Seriously. Get over it.

After reading this please spend some time meditating on Rule #5 (because in this situation, some things don't matter)

Roadies wear kit because it's their fashion. Pretty much the rest of the world thinks it looks creepy.

A few weeks ago I was on a club ride in San Diego when we caught up to a guy on a Surly steel bike with big, fat tires, platform pedals, and panniers on the handlebar and both wheels. The guy had on cotton shorts, a t-shirt and a pair of sneakers, no helmet. He was originally from Sweden and had decided to ride from Canada to Mexico. We chatted for a bit and I asked him how much his loaded bike weighed: "About 50 kilos."

He had no trouble keeping up with our group climbing up hills and chatting the entire time. I was tempted to do the Wayne's World bow but I wasn't sure he would get the reference.

Urban Dictionary: hipster

Now compare this with the lyrics by Tower of Power in their song: "What Is Hip?"

Maybe you feel jealous because they feel comfortable using their kit on. If you don't why you bother to care other people appearance.
By the way cycling kit develop to make cyclist feel comfortable as much as possible. They even invent saddle cover for people don't wear cycling kit to feel much comfortable.
If u asking why today majority people using fancy cycling kit rather than shorts gym? It's like u asking why people today use Internet and social media all the time to communicate when in the 80's we used to meet each other to communicate. This is like retorist questions.

No kidding.

Of course, this MUP ran right near the local NFL team's training facility...
Yeah, we see that around here, too:

That first definition has to be the worst Urban Dictionary definition ever. I hope it was meant as satire.

I'll assume that you are assuming I'm jealous. I'll next acknowledge your statement as an opinion. Lastly, what question is do you think has value? I wanting to ask in the first place is as futile as anything.

Sometimes I wear cycling specific clothes, and sometimes I don't (depends on what my goals are while on the bike). I've gone fast with cycling clothes, and with normal clothes. I've gone slow with cycling clothes, and with normal clothes. If I were passed by someone wearing gym shorts and a shirt, I'd try to hang with him/her and get to know them. If I couldn't keep up, oh well. Train harder I guess.

I guess every people has different opinions on value. If u think wearing a kit is a waste of money, it feels like a little too judging. To be honest sometime I use casual pants for cycling but sometime I need comfort to fulfill my desire of cycling. If u ask me that buy kit is worth, I'll say yes, it's worth every money I spent but it's not a must. If u see that buying kit is a waste then don't buy it. But for other people that want comfort for his recreational cycling wearing jersey is a must.
My conclusion is every one has their own point of view of something. Some sees it very important and other sees it as a waste, but it's not right to force your point of view to other.
