school me on cameras, please

looking at the Garmin VIRB, GoPro, and the Shimano Sport Cam.

haven't found much online about the Shimano and its software yet. I like the VIRB and the speed/cadence/power overlay via the software. No such for GoPro, though, obviously it has been around longer.

Anybody have the Shimano that can chime in? Other two have plenty of reviews online, including some good ones by DCRainmaker.

Thanks in advance.

how difficult to match up the timing with that when you start and stop the camera for snippets at a time?

admittedly, I don't know yet how easy that is to do with the Garmin nor Shimano, too.

want ease of use, but also good quality video with some of the fun add-ons, too.

thanks again.

I use the beeps of the garmin 800 to synch the video or a thumbs up into the camera which I then (sometimes I forget) clip out once the two are union-ed. I can also use the noise of the freehub to synch the cadence when I am descending.

That's nice, but $50 is a pretty steep price considering the base camera price is $200-300. I've heard that the Garmin software works with any video files though.

What do you plan to use it for -- just cycling, or general use?

Consumer Reports just rated the Sony Action camera the best because of picture quality and built-in image stabilization. GoPro does have a lot more mount options, though.

The two companies are not affiliated to my knowledge.
Dashware works with any video, has nothing to do with GoPro as a device.
I also made no claim on price.
He said there was "no such" for GoPro.
I never said you had to use it.

mostly for cycling. will probably also see some other use, but, majority will be on the bike and mostly just for entertainment purposes.

I use contour roam cameras on my bike and I am very happy with them.

I have a Sony Actioncam and am very happy with it. Here is a video taken on my Tadpole trike and sped up about 4X's. Hopefully this works as I don't really have youtube access here at work. *note: not all videos on my page were taken with the Sony actioncam*
