My first bike was just under $3000. A year later I added carbon wheel. Now 4,years later and 6500 miles I'm considering a new bike double the original.
If it gets you out on the road...... Do it.

I would say search the market more, buy gear online, and save some cash.

WHOOOOO, 4K on a bike in a deep recession.. must be nice... lol.. I say, if ya got it, spend it before it ain't worth nuthin!
ask yourself if this purchase really is what you want, and if it's truly an investment in your health and happiness for the longterm... you answer "yes" to both, I say show up tomorrow and spend the extra $80 bones on getting properly fitted for the bike and make it all perfect..

I have 2 pr RBX Pro shorts they're the best, want the bibs now.
Ive bought cheaper jesseys online and you never know what you get til it shows up.
I want my local shops colors since ive been with them 9 years,
Plus i believe in contributing to the local economy.
I have no idea when ill ever be able to do this again so im going for it.

Particularly on the last line, if you don't know if/when you'll be able to swing this kind of a budget again, don't waste it.

I would only spend the money if you can check off the following boxes
1 - All my consumer debts (credit cards) are currently paid off
2 - I have six months of emergency funds (which can pay all bills) just in case my job goes south
3 - all school debt, medical bills, etc are paid off
If you can't check all these off, perhaps hold off and pay these debts down or save some emergency money first....the last thing you want to do is sell a 2k dollar plus bike for 1300 in order to survive a crisis.

Planet X Stealth TT with SRAM Red - $1000
Neo Hyper SRAM Red - $1200
Felt F70 SRAM Rival - $500
Clothes, Garmin Edge 500, road/mtb shoes, pedals, etc - ~$600

If that's the bike you want, enjoy it. It's difficult to get many brands discounted this time of year so that's probably the standard deal for a 2015 Specialized. I understand what you are saying about getting jerseys that fit. I probably have a half dozen I got online for a good price that don't fit all that well.
Just go out, ride hard, and have a good time. Good for you supporting your LBS too.

You can't come out the back end of dropping $4k with a 105 equipped bike.
Just stand back and see what you're holding after dropping $4k.
That is clearly not good value for dollar, no two ways about it.
I would try to talk you out of it but you seem happy and intent on buying, so all I can say is enjoy!

Isn't that something like 11% sales tax? Where do you live? If I bought $4000 worth of anything taxable in CT the tax would be around $250.

$2400 will get you one of these....Fuji Bikes - USA Archive note it's Ultegra. I recently did some research for a friend who is getting into road cycling. I kept finding that Fuji was a great "bang for the buck" bike. My take on Specialized is that they make good products that are basically over-priced. As has been said you can do better but if you are happy who cares? FWIW I recently bought a Ford Focus ST and paid too much but so far I'm loving the car. That's really what it's about.
For some reason that Fuji link keeps directing to an archives page......what I was trying to show is the Fuji SST 2.1. A 2.3 will come with 105 at a tad under $2K. If you click on "road" and competition you can get to the bikes.
