LIVE - Hour World Record Attempt

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I will be disappointed if he's not literally shouting "shut up legs!" on the last handful of laps.

He should have the record easy since they have changed the rules recently.

Still, less than Moser did, in 1984.

Too bad he blood doped when he set that record. Forever an asterisk by that one.

Considering the ever-evolving rules about what counts and what doesn't and the history of doping, the whole thing is pretty much one giant asterisk.

Plenty of others have covered more distance than V. Why do they say he crushed the record??

The longer records were performed on bikes that for various reasons do not conform to modern UCI rules (wheel sizes, riding position, etc). Yes, that maybe makes it a little artificial. And Jens won't hold the record long until Martin or someone really crushes it, but its still one hell of a way to end a great career.

Go Jens!

Yup.

Until someone beats Chris Boardman's 56.375 km 'Superman' hour record, this will be true. There is hope, as Boardman's 4:11.114 4km 'Superman' pursuit record was beaten by Jack Bobridge in 2011 at 4:10.534.

The way V handled or didn't handle the question of doping will forever cloud my respect for him. I can find another hero.

Not from his generation in this sport you won't.

Would you rather have him: A) Lie about it (ie Lance). B) Tell the truth (Landis) C) Get caught (Contador & others).

I'd love to see an updated version of that (I think) Top 10 TdF finishers graphic. Pre-Lance fallout, he was one of the few not grayed-out for being caught doping. I'd have to imagine that 75%+ of that graphic would be grayed-out, now.
