I am looking to upgrade the stock (Mavic Aksium Race) that came on my Jamis Xenith. I am between the Mavic Ksyrium SLS and the Shimano Dura-Ace C24. Anyone with past/current experience with these? They are very similar in price and weight, but the Shimano being a hybrid carbon/aluminum while the Mavic are full aluminum.

I've got the Dura-Ace C24's. They seem great...I upgraded from stock Bontrager Race wheels that came on my Madone. I was originally trying to get the RS80 C24's, which are cheaper but have the same rim and spokes as the Dura Ace wheels, but I had to warranty them as the rear hub had some issue, and Shimano actually upgraded me for free to the Dura Ace wheel set because they were out of stock of the RS80's. : ) Honestly the wheels are probably nicer than I need, but I appreciate the lightness for climbing and after almost two full seasons of riding on sometimes less than ideal roads they're still true. No complaints, about the wheels, or the customer service. : )

I used RS80 (same rim as the Dura Ace) before and really like the ride compared to other wheels with aluminum rims. Plus the Dura Ace hubs use ball bearings, which are very easy to maintain.

I'd rather have something like Pacenti SL23 / White T11 (from November) than the two options above.

Consider reviewing customer feedback from sites that sell the wheels that you are considering. I was planning to purchase Mavic Krysium elite wheels, but learned that people had been having trouble with cracked nipples on the rear wheels after a year or two. Research resulted in an interesting revelation: the cracked nipple problem developed after the wheel was upgraded one or two years ago. They changed the material to reduce weight and made the wheel thinner. I'm glad I learned that.

That's the move to make. Mavic's aren't bad at all, but Shimano wheels are of a higher quality control.
