Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Count the number of things that went wrong.

1. No helmet.
2. With two cars approaching, the cyclist shouldn't even be in the intersection.
3. Red car is clearly speeding.
4. This is an unregulated intersection (a concept that is unfamiliar to Westerners, but very common in Russia.)
5. The truck fails to yield (the red car is on his right, which means that it has the right of way.)
6. It's not obvious at first sight but the truck driver does not have his seat belt on, so, after the collision, he ends up all the way in the passenger seat.

You really should wear a helmet in case this type of incident happens to you. It makes the embalmer's job easier.

Last year I was approaching an intersection when a car speeding from the cops blasted through about as fast as in the video above--highway speed. If I was three seconds faster he would have turned me into mush. He immediately crashed and as is often in the case of drunks, was miraculously uninjured and to my disbelief, got out of the shattered car and walked away. I couldn't believe what I just saw. I caught up to him and held up my Centurion as a kind of barricade to impede his path until the cops arrived and arrested him. News story here. What a surreal moment.

In an interview afterwards, the cyclist admitted that pulling a man from a truck cab is much harder when your drawers are solidly filled with fresh poo.
