Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This made me laugh

I was scrolling through my local CL to see if there were any good finds and I saw this:
Genesis Road Tech (upgraded)

I mean this guy is giving detailed speed specs about how fast this bike goes, it's hilarious...

I also love that most of the pics are the same basic shot of the non-drive side in different locations. As if that makes it seem like a better bike!

so what you're saying is you don't want to buy my bike? j/k

listing potential speed is humorous. I can't figure out why you would buy a $200 bike just to spend another $350 in upgrades, then offer a it up at $100 loss. the bike is only a year old. why not enjoy it if it's that much better? seems like a big waste of time to me.

Someone needs to see if there's a money-back guarantee on the cruising speed.

Love it! Refreshing change of pace from the usual connoisseur's braggadocio you see around here. Makes me wonder why I've spent so much; I could go just as fast on a $450 WalMart bike!

You can take the bike out of China, but you can't take the China out of the bike.

Picture 3 sold it for me. Endorsed by Larry King?! Sold!

For the $350 he spent on upgrades he could have bought a good used aluminum or classic steel racing bike.

What's the current term for stem shifters? Stifters?

The bike in the last photo has Schrader valves. Was that pre-mod?

Odd things I noticed on this bike - Graphics on one side only. Red plastic platform pedals. Very interesting.

That's a $10,000 bike for 80% off but too bad it's a scam

Yeah, that last photo looks like the off-the-shelf status.

Funny he doesn't show the post-upgrade crankset.

I can't believe how an aluminum framed bike can weigh 35 pounds and how replacing almost all components only brings it down to 26. I would expect it to weigh no more than a decent older quality steel bike at 23. Can it really be cost effective for a cheaply-engineered aluminum frame to contain several pounds more of expensive aluminum? Serious question.

Because that bike only weighed about 28 or 29 pounds to begin with.

But it is "NEW"!!! Surely you can trust a guy on Craigslist, what is this world coming to? I mean the guy's cruising speed increased 11mph, no one would ever make stuff like that up.

You wouldn't pay $350 to lose 9 pounds of weight and gain 7mph average speed?? lol

Well, if you put it that way...
I would be more then willing to pay double that, for 1/2 the result, if it was for my bike!
