Who here rides a new steel road bike?
I've been riding a full carbon Fuji for three years now. I love the nice, soft, squishy ride, but that's the problme. I want something with more response. So, I'm looking at steel frames. Something with Columbus or Reynolds tubing. Something like an All City Mr. Pink or a Masi Gran Criteria.
Any suggestions or experiences?

All my bikes except my P2C have been steel with the last two being a custom Spectrum and Waterford. If you're going to get a steel frame, get it built to your specs, otherwise you may as well grab a composite from the bike store.
Small builders can turn out a really nice, very light and strong frame, while the mass produced steel frames tend to be pretty low end and on the heavier side.

Bikes: Many, mostly old, steel, heavy and beautiful + one titanium bike; pretty much the complete opposite of my other bikes.

The usual bike I ride/commute on second hand and about 15-18 years old. It is glorious to ride. While its a little heavy, it's feel is very much worth the extra weight. Even though its getting a little on in age, it has a quite a few more decades in it. If you don't need super light, than steel is a great choice. If you want lighter, responsiveness and absolute durability for the long run, get a titanium frame. My new bike is titanium and easily outperforms my steel bike. Titanium can be expensive initially, however when you weigh up its life span and performance, it price is well justified.
Steel frames are quite a bit cheaper, the ride almost as well and have similar durability but weigh more.
I'm not sure what new standard steel road frames are like quality wise, however I don't see any reason why you couldn't buy a high quality mass produced frame if you were selective. Id aim for a steel only manufacturer, like Soma, Masi, Surley.
Good luck
