What do you think about when you ride?
I was talking to my wife and we were discussing what we thought about when we ride. She said she thinks about everything. She goes through her work, problems, friends, the entire gamut. I think the only thing she doesn't think about is riding her bike. I, on the other hand, think about how much longer I can push my legs to go a little bit farther or faster and sometimes if I remember to, I look at the view. I equated it to the differences between men and women. What are the thoughts that pass through your head as you're rolling along?

Very little other than not getting hit by cars. I'm usually in a very kung fu zen mind set. It's one of the few times I can shut my brain off and be in the moment

This time of year - grapes. I like in Western, PA and all I can smell on my rides are grapes, it's awesome. Other than that, it's everything buy riding my bike: work, cars, my health, family and stuff like that.

All over the map; however, there is usually quite a bit of "I'm too fat for this sport" in between other random thoughts....

I'm very much like your wife. Most of my life decisions and ideas came to me while riding my bicycle or motorcycle. Also my fastest speed average rides happen when I'm not paying attention to the ride.

+1. One day I was doing a hard, two-day charity ride. A friend of mine asked me how I was feeling as we went up yet another steep hill. I blurted out the first thing that came to mind, which was "I could really go for some fried chicken." That night, chicken fingers were on the menu at the school where we stayed. Close enough.
I try to do at least two week+ self contained tours each year. I am constantly thinking about my next meal and adult beverages.

About the time my mind registered what the noise belonged to, I turned back just in time to see him at my ankle and he started barking. Scared the chit outta me and my buddy. One of those adrenaline dump, hair up on your arms, scares. Bastard

I'm riding back by there tonight and I'll be ready for him this time

Defiantly try not to think about work that's for sure LOL.
I seem to think about the overall ride and how much energy to use so I have something in the tank for the end.
Most rides are either long 60-100 miles or climbing so I'll try setting may pace for them according to how I fill and have just enough left till the end.
