will a campy 9 speed shifter and cogs work with a 10s derailleur?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i have a campy 9 speed (right) brifter. if I buy a new 9 speed campy chain and a 9 speed campy cogset, will they run ok with my existing campy chorus 10 speed (rear) derailleur?

yes, not the ones with the sharp hoods, but still small rounded ones. i also have a compatible 9 speed crank, so that's no worry. i imagine the 10s der, if anything, has a wider possible path than necessary with a 9 speed cog. i think there is also a 'pull ration' of movement of the shift compared to the der, but you believe these are matched, correct? i have the 10 s shifter but it's acting up on me, i wanna go back to 9 speed so will look for chain and cogs. thanks.

Acting up in what way?

And yes, the geometry/shift-ratio of late-9 and 10 are the same. The 9 speed Ergo just pulls more cable.

my 10 s shifter s kinda all-over the place. over shift, undershirt. i'ver replaced cables, hood etc... still just not quite 'on'. i've also replaced the g-springs. i might be able to get to the bottom of it, but i'm also interested in going back to 9 speed, as the chains/cogs on the 10s wear-out too fast. i have a 9 speed shifter, so thinking of hgeting cogs/chain and seeing how that feels. also my ultra torque crank has always had this funny thing whereby the 10s chain will land in-between the 36 and 50 ring, and not catch on either. i figure maybe this is a 2 birds with 1 stone kinda thing. i've buddy who runs 9 and will loan me his chain and cogs for a day or 2 to discover.

Did you check that the hanger is not bent? A bent hanger can cause all kinds of tune problems.

Do you have the correct FD? Prior to 2007 there was a separate compact-FD and standard-FD. 2009 and beyond are one derailleur for both cranks (2007-08 too, but those are QS).

i changed to a different shifter (also 10s) and it seemed to work fine. plus the shifter kinda went out slowly- bike not crashed etc with possible rear der hanger. i also checked the hanger for plum, it seems strait.
