Trackstanding. Bad for the bike?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

One of my riding buddies trackstands on his geared bike at every light just, I think, to prove he can.

Maybe his seat is a bit high and he can't reach the ground.

Asplode from Awesomeness has better alliteration.

Oh, and you ride a track bike on the track. Otherwise it's a f****.

Yes, now that it's in with the trendy crowd it's a F---e. For folks like me who've been riding track bikes or converted road bikes on the street for almost 50 years, it was and still is a "fixed wheel bike", or as some people in NYC used to say a fixed.

F---e is too cute for me, and the reality is that ever since some hipster rode up to me and asked about my f---e. I avoided riding it in public. Trendy and I don't mix well. I've always zigged when the world zagged and it's too late to change now.

Turning the crank backwards causes the bearings in the BB to wear unevenly which can cause vibrations which will potentially fracture the head-tube and you will crash, potentially dying.

It's not bad for your bike per se, but it is bad for your bike's self esteem. It will feel shame because all the other bikes can go fast but it has to sit still because it's rider doesn't have ballz enough to blow through the stoplight.

Yep. I commute occasionally and watch riders all day long in town. The only people that stop are tourists and people on the rentals.

Am I putting unnecessary stress on my bike? Im about 145lbs.
It's only bad for your bike if you fall.
