3 Gap November 1st

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

3 Gap November 1st

I will be in Northern Atlanta for Halloween. I am looking to find a group or partner to ride 3 Gap out of Dahlonega on Saturday morning November 1. I attempted the ride once (alone) and didn't get very far. I suffered a catastrophic mechanical failure on Neels Gap 1 mile from the top. It has haunted me ever since. I want that ride. Anyone riding. I live in Louisiana and everything I ride is flat, so the climbs will be slow.

I don't know if you are interested in "stretching" before that ride, but the Halloween ride leaves from Woodruff Park around 6:30....

Call Northstar Bicycle in Dawsonville or Dahlonega Wheelworks. They both have a lot of really great guys that ride the gaps a lot. As for the mechanical, did you throw a rock on the rock pile as you went by?

Yeah, there is nothing better than the ride from the top of Woody Gap back to Dahlonega.

Apparently I did not know my own strength. The rear derailleur hanger sheered right off! It was the steepest part of the Neels Gap climb and I was out of the saddle. It was a slow motion fail and fall over as I frantically tried to kick a leg out of the clips and make a save. Luckily no motorist was around to watch me fall on my hip.
