The real benefit of the folding bikes on Sunday's ride was their size.
We drove into Hobart to pick up some storage units which turned out to be relatively large. We had suspected that might be the case, so we opted to bring bicycles that took up the least room in the back of the van.
And since we were in Hobart anyway, it was an excellent opportunity to ride the cycleway. The cycleway is like a cyclist's highway ... it's a wide, paved "path" --the width of a road lane and much like a road, complete with painted line down the middle.
All sorts of cyclists ride it -- parents with small children, commuters, cyclists out for a casual ride, and roadies in full kit riding solo, in pairs, or with their club. It's relatively flat ... probably the flattest route you'll find in this part of world ... so cyclists get up quite a speed on it. And it was full of cyclists on Sunday ... quite possibly because it was such a nice day and "the season" is starting, so people are out on training rides.
The cycleway is about 14 or 15 km long, but of course you can stop various places along the way. About 5 km up is the Valhalla Ice Cream shop ... so since we were pressed for time, we opted to cycle just that far.
Then on the way back we turned off onto a side road to check out one of the bays and an old cemetery ... and that's where Sunday's photos were taken. In the first two photos, we're standing on the walking path next to the beach ... then we cycled up the hill into the cemetery.

Only 5 bikes showed up for the Sunday group ride. A little rain scared folks away? If you don't ride in the rain, when you gonna ride? One of the regulars who didn't show found this cam of us, me and Stoker leading the group up 124th:
42 miles and 2200'. Just another Perfect Ride™. This is the way it's going to be now.

Yesterday, I road a 27 mile there and back from my house in Jensen Beach, FL to about two miles beyond the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant on Hutchinson Island. There was a slight wind coming in from the south which makes the ride home torture. I really perfer the wind from the north; it feels like God is gliding me home. Yesterday was my longest ride so far, and I look forward to longer rides as I continue to get in better shape.
(And you can ride whatever you feel like riding ... we're all-inclusive in this thread. )

If I move to WA I'll have to learn to ride in the rain though I suppose. Never much liked it years ago when my bike was my only method of transportation other than a bus and my thumb
Pretty much the same distance and elv as my ride only mine was drier and fewer bikes with me

Thanks! Jensen Beach is on the east coast about 100 miles north of Miami, but we are still considered part of South Florida. As far as the temperature, we usually have the air conditioning on 10- 11 months out of the year, so that's an indication. It does get into the 30s a few days here and there. I will need to get a cycling specific jacket soon. My original Long Island skin thinned out a long time ago.

The wife and I did a "Birthday Ride" on the Longleaf Trace this past weekend. We've only been "cycling again" about 7 weeks, so this was our personal longest since we were kids. My distance was to be 55km and I did a little more; about 36 miles. The wife's distance was to be 46km and she did the 36 miles with me. It was a wonderful ride with beautiful weather. Can't wait to get back on that Rail to Trail bike trail. Didn't know what I was missing all of these years by letting the bike sit in the barn.

No thanks. Rather play some Borderlands Pre-Sequel if it rains.

In the wintry PNW there are only two kinds of riders: the wet and the weak. Unfortunately on Sunday we were both. Wake-up call. Fall slough-off has gone on long enough. I sucked today on the StepMill. Time to start two-a-days.

But you know what? Riding in the rain is fun. I actually like it. You have to have the right bike, full fenders, the right tires, the right wheels, the right lights, and the right clothing combo which varies with the rain intensity and temperature. It's only not fun when it's below 40° and raining hard. Then it's more like stupid, but I've done it anyway, just because it's there.
It's more fun in a group too, and safer.

@macka, I like your attitude, and thanks for sharing your beautiful ride photos.
@rousseau, I don't know if you care, but you are coming across as a naive, arrogant, demeaning jerk. Just ignore the posts, but you don't to crap in someone's oatmeal. Not that it matters, but I am a former racer who competed at the National Championships multiple times, so I know what it's like to train hard and ride fast. I've never owned or ridden a folding bike (or recumbent, tandem, penny-farthing, etc.), but to say the similarity between them and a road bike ends at two wheels is ridiculous. Here's your worst nightmare, you bicycle bigot:
I mean, why on earth would those people on road bikes even be seen riding in the same group as those with Moultons and MTBs?! It's like some are on a bike ride while others are doing god-knows-what.
