Light and Motion VIS 180 - anyone using this?
 

I recently tried their VIS 180 Micro. Although bright, it does not offer the ability to position it so that it points directly rearward when mounted to a seat post; it ends up facing down about 25 degrees or what ever your seat tube is. The device seems pretty well made and it sort of glows bright red and then less and then more, etc. It does not have the strobe blink like other rear "blinkies". The mounting flaw is disappointing in this USB rechargeable unit. Light and Motion suggested that I purchase their 70 lumen $100 VIS 180 which can be positioned to point directly rearward. Sure, fine, seems really bright but $100??? Discuss....

There must be something missing from the mounting bracket on yours, the VIS 180 micro has the adjustable mount like the more expensive VIS 180. Take a look at the side-by-side here Vis 180 - Choose Your Light - Light & Motion

That being said, I wish I had purchased the larger unit, the pulse on the Micro is anemic.

I bought it. Yeah its expensive as heck for a rear light. I find that with bike gear, I can do a cost/benefit analysis and avoid the stuff I think is crazy expensive. The benefit is astronomical when it comes to being seen so I have no compunctions about buying an expensive light if I think it does the job well. This light does.

It has a low light indicator which is very useful.

The seatpost attachment is quite good and easy to use.

Most importantly, it is a bright rear light and it is not directional (like most of the bright rear lights I am familiar with).

Light and motion makes a quality product.

What about the niterider solas? It is also usb rechargeable, and has good side/off axis visibility.

It's a 2W light, so should be plenty visible.

Especially in comparison to the new lights in the last 18 months or so.

I'v had mine for probably going on two years now, it's an amazing light, hasn't skipped a beat.

It works perfectly on my seat post and is super bright.
