@LAJ is right, this computer does look interesting.
It can communicate with the Di2 and you can display Di2-related data, including battery charge, a schematic of what gears you're in, gear ratios, etc. Very useful for me since I can never remember what gear I'm in, I'm forever looking down to check. How newby is that? Haha and also forever *shocked* to find that I'm out of gears climbing up some gnarly hill.
| Pioneer Electronics USA
Also GPS, ANT+, thermometer, barometric pressure and altimeter.
I kind of want this as long as it doesn't turn out to suck IRL.

I walked into a local bike shop this afternoon and the following bike was on the floor. It belonged to a long time riding friend that passed away four years ago in a motorcycle accident. His wife had given it to a shop employee who was also a friend and who has helped her out on some things.
Anyway, it was sort of sad to see it. If I remember, its an '86 or '87 SLX Tommasini Super Prestige. And before anyone asks, no, it's not for sale.

Sad, but kind of nice too, no?
I need to tell Mr H that is if I die unexpectedly, the Magic Bike goes to Mt Boy Racer. He would: 1. Totally appreciate it and 2. Put the miles on it that it deserves.

I did an upper body workout today, am I going to be shunned for working away from the cycling physique?

This monkey took a selfie using a photographers camera. The guy was all set up in the jungle, shooting pics of these monkeys. One of them was watching him and came up to the camera. The photographer stepped away & the monkey took some great shots. Then the shots got out onto the internet & the photographer sued for copyright infringement. He lost because US law says something created by an animal cannot be copyrighted. So that's why it's ok for me to post the pic here.

OMG, that bike is just too damn hot! (well, the red stripe tires kinda ruin it a little bit, but...)

I usually don't get that excited by olde '60s bikes much but this one is kinda calling my name. Luckily it's probably a little big for me.

I have two Joule GPS units, using them on multiple bikes, works fine. Some quriks, but I'd guess they all have that, particularly when you try to get them to consistently communicate with power meters. Cheap unit, tells me what I need to know.

But if it's not for sale why is it out on the floor? It should be hanging on the wall or from the ceiling or something. Minus those ill-conceived tires, of course. Some skins would be hawt on that.

The original owner was anal retentive about his toys. I can't imagine how many miles this thing has on it and is still in such immaculate condition. I remember when he bought it new.

all this talk about garmin...when did cycling become so complicated. I remember when I picked up the bike and just rode with gay abandon. Now I dress funny, I fiddle with my nads to get comfortable, I eat, I digest, I check tyres, I check my bag, I check my pockets, I worry about food and drink, I put on my funny shoes, I fiddle with computer (well that has ended now), etc etc.
Such a palava!

Also its hard for me to know when someone says "my XYZ brand unit works just fine," if XYZ unit will work just fine for me. The unfortunate reality is that I'm probably going to only find this out by ponying up and buying something else. Because of this, I guess I should probably try to keep cost to a minimum. But that Pioneer is tempting.

I have no goal, so I have no need for measuring my performance. I just like to ride and even that only in a very narrow temperature band. I use a $6 wireless computer. But other folks are really concerned about reaching a goal, and they need a way to know that they have.

Interestingly enough, the "wind in the hair" cyclists are forever bemoaning the complexity of the type of cycling that I do. Yet who is out there actually riding day after day, week after week? Me, data girl. I just like to ride my bikes. I just like data. Data does not detract for someone like me, it vastly enhances the experience.
To each his/her own of course. But it just strikes me as funny when the wind-in-the-hairs imply my data devices take the joy out of cycling. Because I doubt there is anyone out there who likes to ride more than I do.

Hey HP, Has anyone mentioned Mio as yet another alternative to Garmin?
Cyclo 3.0" WIFI - Mio
I purchased their cheapest model, the 105, for something like $50 from overseas and have been pretty happy with it. It's got a frustrating user interface and they require their own clunky software to extract initial readings - but after that you can link it to Strava. So that's a negative. But the device itself works pretty well and the top model (505) has all the bells and whistles: Barometric altitude, Di2 support, BT, ANT, etc etc.
