Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My specialized allez 2015 smartweld build. light brakes? help

Hello guys! happy new year everyone! bought the frame set weeks ago, now I am ready to build my training bike. I race in mtb so I train a lot in road bike too, I love the colors of the frame, it came in 1180g without seatpost clamp. Is a heavy frame for a 49 size I saw a 52 in 1157g. I will build it with 2012 red 10 speed group, yes 11 speed is better but I want a light bike with complete red and the 22 group is more expensive now, so u can find red 10 speed parts for a great price.

I will post more pics of the parts of my old bike and the red parts, but today I have an idea that is in my brain all the time BRAKES???? I want something POWERFUL I live near the mountains and have a lot of long downhills and speed around 80km/h really fast!!! so there are light brakes like the KCNC C7 brakes at 165g is a super light set but in other forums people said that is not too powerful like red brakes and u have to squeeze really hard the levers to emergency braking. So I'm deciding in three models ciamillo micro (200g with alloy pads) kcnc c7 (165g with pads) and the aerolink sram red brakes at 250g with pads. let me know your opinions and experiences thank you

I have also heard that the KCNC brakes lose power due to them being so light weight. Hands down, the eebrakes are your best option. 160g, and have and really strong power even compared to heavy sets. Only down side is that you are going to have to loose a limb to get them. They list for $630, but have amazing customer service from what I have heard.
The circled dot is the eebrake. This is a weight vs braking power data chart.

I have these on my Allez. I don't live in the mountains, but they stop me pretty well in the rolling hills around here. They're not real expensive and they seem to be in the weight range you're considering.

I knew about those planet x but I read a long term review and they have a tricky adjustment and the cable barrel and bolt is a bad system.not good comments on ciamillos's brakes u have to align the calipers almost every ride

and the EE are too expensive for save 50g

Those brakes are all boat anchors and will slow you down during climbing. I'd go with these:

I would not waste money and just stick with the ultegra 6800 brakes. Allegedly they work OK with SRAM levers. Frankly, I can't stand SRAM Double Tap so I did not try.
The brakes are amazing with the Ultegra levers.

sound light but I don't want to spend 1600$ in brakes in a 800$ AL frame!!!! the best option is the sram red aerolink brakes, I have the 2010 version they are awesome, I will install a titanium recessed nut for save 15g

I don't have an answer for you, but that's a nice frame, I was looking at them on the website. Did you get it for MSRP?

I also have the Planet X brakes, and have experienced none of what those reviewers say. They stop nicely, and the cable barrel and bolt works fine. As it was new to me, I double checked it on rides when they were new, with no issue.

So why bother at all? Save weight (and money) somewhere else. Those Red brakes on your list are pretty good as it is - I've dive-bombed down most of the big climbs in the French Alps with those and never had any problems. They're light enough, especially considering that you don't really have a real weight weenie frame anyway.

What pedals are you running? The cheapest place to lose weight is in the saddle, what does yours on the bike weigh?

Those are both pretty light, what is your bike as a whole?

The Ciamillo Zero Gravity Ti brakes work great for me and weigh 195 g with pads. I get them used on ebay for less than 1/2 their MSRP. Also I think that graph is a bunch of crap.
