Giro Empire Road Shoes
This is probably pointless, but has anybody seen a good deal on Giro Empire shoes(euro 45.5)? I've looked around on the internet, but didn't find any sales. Thought i would take a shot in the dark and ask on here. Thanks.

Aren't those laces a bit over long? No troubles getting them caught in chains?
I had heard the intention was to wrap the laces around the outside of the shoe and then tie at the top, a la old school football (ie, soccer) boots.
Ah yes, here, like how Taylor Phinney does it;

I've been wearing the silver/neon green Giro Empires for over a year now. I tried several different brands and shoes but always experienced numbness. These are the only shoes my feet have been happy with. I ride mostly fixed and have never had a problem with the laces catching nor do I ever worry about it. If you think laces could be dangerous, remember that many track racers wear shoes with laces and laces would be much less of a concern on a road bike. I have particularly wide feet and the laces allow me to have a perfect fit. Definitely worth every. I haven't tried the Giro Empire SLX but it might be a better (more comfortable) choice only because the upper is supposed to be more supple than the Giro Empire.

I wanted the new Empire SLX but gave up waiting on them to go on sale somewhere. Bought some Sidi Air Wire for this year's new shoe purchase...

I saw them for the first time yesterday. They are probably the lighterst shoes ive ever held. Very cool.

Im curious if these are hot at all. Wondering if they would be a ridiculous buy for a Southern California rider.

I have a pair of the first generation patent black ones from a couple seasons ago - they are not the most ventilated shoes for hot weather. I wear mine in cooler seasons only , rainy days etc. Super comfy and light but stiff, though.
Looks like the latest versions have more perforations and are made of different material, so maybe those are better ventilated?

Have the Empires just about a year now. I had no problems in the heat last summer and interestingly over the winter my feet have stayed much warmer in comparison with the Specialized comp a had before.
