Ok guys, been a while (well a real long time) since I posted, but thought I'd relay my experience building up an 04 Lemond Victoire Frame. This forum helped me make some key decisions, double vs. triple etc.
As a relatively new rider, I was aiming to get the experience of selecting components, ultimately ended up going to the LBS for the build out and final fit.
Now, in line with most theories on building from scratch this did cost a little more than buying a end of season 04 Lemond Victoire, however, as I was trying to replicate the 05 Victoire specs, I have saved around $450 at the end of the day. Spent 2 months from late Jan through Feb buying parts. Shipping ended up being less than $100 in total through careful selection of Ebay vendors.
2004 Lemond Victoire - 57 frame, that long top tube makes a difference.
2005 Ultegra Group - Double 39-53, 172.5 crank, 12-27.
2005 Bontrager Race Lite Wheelset.
Bontrager Race Lite OS Stem 90mm.
2005 Fizik Aliante Carbon saddle - Highly recommend.
Bontrager X Lite Carbon Seatpost - Debatable, but looks good.
Crane Creek S2 Headset
Bontrager X Lite OS Carbon Handlebars 44cm
Speedplay Zero Stainless Pedals
Shimano Flight Deck Wireless
Michelein Pro Tires
Bontrager X Lite Carbon Cages
Bike weight on digital bathroom scales: Approx 18.3 lbs
For those interested in sizing, I am:
Height: 72in
Sternum Notch: 59.75 in
Inseam: 34 in
Arm Length: 26in
Shoulder Width: 18.8in
Weight: 175 lbs
See some quick pictures here: https://www.nomisco.com/lemond
Looking forward to getting some mileage in around the greater Boston area.

Hey britrx8 --- Congratulations. As a fellow Victoire owner, I share your enthusiasm. Mine's a 55 cm bone stock '04, purchased slightly used off eBay. Basic differences being the 52-42-30 / 12-25 triple, 175 crank, 110cm stem and Look Keo pedals. You've got about an inch in height and inseam on me, but I got about 15 lbs of weight on you --- so there . The bike has been very comfortable for the couple hundred miles I've ridden it so far. Longest ride has only been 30 miles, so we'll see.
Have you ridden it yet?

Thanks for the complements guys.
55/Rad - Going from memory I believe your building out a Lemond Tete correct, that will be a great setup when its built out. Do you have a 57 frame?
I did 60 miles this past weekend, before getting a pro fit, so I know what I am talking about when describing how the bike feels. So far, it has been great, no fit issues besided my original 110mm stem stretched me out a bit too much. I really need somewhere between a 90mm and 100mm stem.
Celticfrost - Its interesting to see your measurements, as I probably could have done a 55cm frame with a 110mm or greater stem, my arms are fairly long so the 57 feels just about right.
I have been debating a compact crank etc, but given the majority of the terrain in the Boston / New England area, there is no immediate need..

I'm 6', 162 lbs, with a 33.75 inseam. The 57 is my preferred Lemond size but I also love my 55 Maillot Jaune.
But alas, mine is still stuck at the paint shop.
