Does anyone know how many of these were made?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does anyone know how many of these were made?

So Im almost done building a 2014 SL4 S-Works Tarmac frame (Black with Green lettering) and during my fitting last night quite a few people came by and were admiring the bike. From what they tell me, it's a little rare.
My question is, does anyone know how many were made? I've heard 12-16?

Ride it. It will depreciate just like everything else so you may as well use it.

Three options; ride it, hang it on a wall, sell it and let someone else deal with it. What's going to make you happiest?

Specialized and rare don't go together.

Probably as rare as the green Cervelos. Their worth turned out to be the same as regular colors.

Is this like a Mark Cavendish edition or just green? I know there was a green venge that may fetch something over the regulars, probably not much though.

There is also the McLaren Venge and Tarmac. Those are pretty sweet.

Exactly. Unlike some cars, nobody cares about a rare bike and it's not going to go up in value over time.

Stands to reason that if you didn't pay extra for it due its rarity (you seem to have not been aware of the situation), no one else is going to either.

Despite my initial reaction of "Well maybe it will be a collectable," this. I've never known any interest in a 'rare' or 'collectable' bike. In fact, the only time I've seen that is from assorted dinguses (dingi?) on ebay or craigslist. Why have a bike if you're not going to ride it?

Also: Looks fast. Bet it's fast. You should make it go fast.

"Custom" for the original owner is not custom for the second owner..... It is just oddly shaped.

OP. Lots of haters here. Gorgeous bike and one if not preeminent race bike on the planet.
Certainly not too rare to ride all the time and would be a waste not to.
Let us know what you think of it. Most will be green with envy and I would be on the same bike if it weren't for diminished flexibility due to age.

Lol, thanks man! I will.
I really didn't expect all of these comments. I was actually just looking for an answer to the question of how many of these frames were made.
Anyone know???

Is it a special edition of some sort? If it's a cavendish edition it should be about 500 i think. If its not then probably thousands.

It's a dealer edition. Only offered to dealers.

No obvious haters. But I think he's counting closet haters. He's a Spesh owner and senses the hate in words.

All you need to do is email Specialized the serial number and ask they can give you all the detail on it if you really want to know.
But even if only a few were made value of it really isn't going to be anything special to most.
Hopefully you don't find out its a fake or something.
