The bike I'm currently riding (and probably will be for quite some time) cost me roughly $7,400 for the frame, fork, Ultegra Di2, Boyd wheels, PowerTap, ProLogo saddle, pedals, and 3T stem and bars.
I put more miles on it every year than I drive and it's the only money-consuming hobby I have. I plan on keeping it 5-6 years.

"How much did you spend on your bicycle?"
Judging by the threads on this forum, never enough.

Bought the frame - probably made about 1994 - a few years ago, after seeing it hanging in a bike shop. I had a set of wheels and extra tires, derailleurs, brakes, and other old parts just marking time in my garage, and I added a few used parts I picked up from both the shop and online. It's not my best bike, but I love it.

Who cares? How much something costs is relative to how much you have in discretionary spending. One person buying a $4000 bike may be nothing to them compared to another buying a $600 bike. What does it matter what you spent for a bike? Aren't there other things about bikes that you are more interested in, like how it rides, why it doesn't handle correctly or how do I change out my crankset?

I find it interesting.
$1,200 on a 2014 CAAD10 105. Growing up I rode my snowboard. A lot. But now that my daughter is turning one year old getting on my board has been a lot harder, even if the resort is 40 minutes away. I see this as an bike that will be with me for 5-10 years in some form. Combined with the time and money snowboarding costs adding the availability of riding a bike vs being on snow. It was a no brainer. I can spend more time riding than I could snowboarding, it will be cheaper in the end, and at this point I'm enjoying it more.

2014 was my first year road riding, i got a 2014 Crosstrail hybrid and was doing 50 mile rides but with the bike at 30 pounds and me at 265 it was killing me literally.
Then rented a new never riden 2014 ROUBIAX and was hooked.
Then i bought this TREK 1000 for $450 and put 1000 miles on it summer 2014.
Then i got an unexpected bonus and went big.
Bought a 2015 TARMAC ELITE new for $2500 and another $1500 in extras.
Over 3000 miles in 2014, i have almost 1000 miles on the TARMAC since september, would do it again ...

About $1000 on my Tommasini, in 1986. Plus another $100-150 bringing it back into ship shape with new rubber, tape, and freewheel last year after not touching it for 20+ years.

Hello guys,
I am a road cycling enthusiast and I appreciate value when I see one. I've had several road bikes but I think that you get what you pay for. Not long ago I bought a very nice (almost NOS) Panasonic 4000 for pennies on the dollar.... $225. I cannot think of anything with 105 for that amount of money but I got it.
So the question is, how much did you spend on your road bike and did you think it was worth it?
Cheers,
Luis

$600 for my first road bike. Used 2007 (?) Spesh Sequoia.
$3600 for my next bike. 2014 Spesh Roubaix Expert.
$800 for my town/rain bike. REI Novara Strada w/105.
Per the spirit of the OP's thread, I overpaid and you are cooler than me. I'm ok wit' dat.

All my bike together costed me about $10,000. My car costed me $4,000 (originally, much more now with years of maintenance).
Bikes and car were all very much worth it.

The bike was expensive for the day because it was custom made for me and had all the best of the time. It was a Christmas present from my mom and dad.

My first serious bike was a Panasonic DX2000 somewhere in the late '70's I think. In any event my current road bike is a Guru Sidero (steel) that came with Ksyrium Elites and SRAM Rival (now Red) that had been ridden twice by the previous owner. Weighs about 18 lbs. Got it for $1200. Worth every penny.

My best bikes have been all over the place when it comes to what I paid for them. $450 got me the bike that got me into racing, a life changer, then almost killed me, cost me thousands and a career. Another $450 got me my racing bike, the bike that extracted everything this body could do. That sum ($450) again got me my Mooney from a just starting framebuilder and clubmate.
$4k+ is what my two ti customs cost each. $450 was the cost of my most fun bike since that racing bike. (1/2 the cost was paint, 1/4 a good seat. Used parts on hand. Frame cost $20. Team Dumpster.) My current flame: a 40 yo frame - $80. Another $200 or so for misc stuff. (Many trips to the hardware store to get a modern derailleur to work with the old Heuret hanger. The stop wasn't remotely in line with the adjusting screw. Also got a seriously tweaked seat lug to work with a seat pin. A huge setback seatpost. And there's my workhorse fix gear on frame #5 . Started as an $80 Peugeot UO-8. Paid $125 for a whole bike for the frame years later. Other frames cost ~$70 each.
Cost/mile is likewise all over the place. Most of a dollar for the ti customs. The Mooney, maybe 6 cents. The workhorse fix gear, about the same. (Much of that bike's costs are tires and wheels. Rims go 2 winters max - sidewall thinning. Plus a few cranksets from rubbing winter boots with road grit against the cranks. I have a pile of cranks with a bite taken out.)
Real plus of whatever I pay - having the right bike for the ride I am doing. Priceless!

I have the following.
2015 Propel Advanced SL3 spec'd up to a SL0 bike.
2013 Madone just added Red22 and Pro Stealth Evo with Zipp 202 FC
2013 Speed Concept 9 series with full Ultegra 6870 di2 and Bontrager 7/9 Aeolus
2015 TCX Advanced Pro 1 spec'd up to Pro 0 bike.
Overal a fair bit penny.

I look at it differently. I spend about $.20 per mile riding my bikes; a great deal in my eyes. It gets better when you add in how much I don't spend on a therapist to manage the stress at work or potential medical costs for being sedentary. Top off the time I get to catch up with family and friends on the rides.
Outside of the couple hundred dollars I spend on routine maintenance and goodies, I have spent anywhere from $700 for a new Schwinn Le Tour in 1994 to a few thousand for my last Trek Madone.
Yes, all worth it.

Tarmac 2014 Pro frame, Di2, Reynolds wheels, 3t carbon H bar, PM. An almost seamless fit between bike and motor. Everything works well together and the mechanical functions become secondary to all other aspects of the ride.
I love the bike but I dislike it when people ask how much it cost.

How much did you spend on your road bike?
The bikes I currently have vary in price from $895 to $13,000.
They all we're worth it. That said the most expensive (willier) is not 15 times better than the least expensive (Motobecanne).

I picked up a mid 70's vintage Fred Deeley Apollo for 25 bucks. I believe it's a Kuwahara road bike rebadged in Canada. Presently apart so no pics but with some TLC and about 40 more bucks it will be a fun ride...
