Preventing theft in a rental garage

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tell your girlfriend that if the bikes get stolen, she's paying to replace them out of her paycheck. Otherwise, they stay in the apartment.

Seriously, I would re-think not keeping them indoors.

It's one of those 2 car tandem garages - meaning you can pull two cars in one after the other (if you want). But we're only putting one car so there is a lot of room. Our landlord is a management company so permanent mods aren't going to be tolerated, hence my post.

Thanks for the advice everyone, this is by far the best solution so far.

I would be very surprised if any landlord would actually notice a hole drilled into the floor in the darkest corner of a garage. Just remove the anchor and fill the hole with some type of putty when you leave.

Alternatively, a very heavy or awkward object (like a ship's anchor or a dead fridge with a hole drilled through it, or a very heavy steel plate, etc,) could be used to chain your bikes to.

I was in a similar situation a couple years ago, but luckily we are in a low-theft area. The locks on the garage doors were all I needed to sleep well at night.

It's not a big deal if you've got a decent drill, but I wouldn't bother drilling concrete in any case having the option to mount on a wood wall stud. I mean, does the floor mount really give additional security? I doubt it.
