Trek 370, good for a beginner?

There is a Trek 370 that I can pick up locally for $250 on eBay that I have had an eye on (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1). I have wanted a road bike for awhile and don't have more than $300 to spend. I have no desire to do racing or compete in any way; my only desire is to ride for a half hour to an hour in the early morning before I head off to class.

Doesn't look too bad, esp for $300. Those shifters will last forever!

I would probably ask a few questions about the actual measurements of the frame, and whether there are lots of chips in the paint etc. Other than that, it looks like a winner. For $250, it can't be all that bad.
