Over-committed, or, What Was I Thinking?!
So, looking at the calendar, I am reminded that the week following the Gran Fondo New York, it's off to Italy for 8 days of cycling in the Veneto and Dolomiti (plus a glimpse of the Giro passing through). A few days after I get back, our office is relocating. The end of this month, I'm moving to the suburbs, but I'm SUPPOSED to be doing paceline training rides on Saturdays and GF familiarization rides on Sundays.... I signed up as a donor member of the local race club so I could participate in every race (and not have to marshal), and the first club race is this weekend (last weekend was their big open crit, and the weekend before was cancelled due to weather). Of course, I am not ready for ANY of it. Weather hasn't helped, and a cold that won't go away is adding insult to injury. I haven't ridden in nearly a week. WEAK. Today I'm wondering if I'll ever get back in the groove....
What ever made me think I could do all that cycling?

Hopefully you started training in December, and you can call this tapering.
If not, you'll be ok, just not first to get anywhere.

In the doldrums of winter, I get excited and sign up for too many things, too. It makes me tired but happy during the summer. This winter, I agreed to be treasurer of my triathlon club. I also signed up for a high-altititude 30k trail race on the other side of the country. Then I come back because the week after that I have a gran fondo with 12,000' of climbing. Then two weeks after that I have my first half-ironman. I have also told friends that I would do the MS150 with them, even though it is only three weeks before my second HIM (which has 7000' of climbing just on the bike).
I am just jealous that you could work in a trip to Italy. Good luck on your race this weekend.
