Vittoria Open Corsa EVO KS - Good tyres?
I've spotted some of these for 7GBP PER tyre... Seems very cheap, I think I read some time ago that these tyres are fairly good so I'm going to order some, but what are they like, anyone on here used them? It will mean me jumping down from 25c to 20c width, how will this difference feel?

I was going to say this is a scam. At about $12 there's no way its a legitimate price.
However, then I saw it was 20mm. Hardly anybody rides tires that narrow these days. Unless it's for the front tire of a time trial bike, and you're a small person, I would not run 20mm tires. It may be they just can't sell these anymore. |

My uncle who is into cycling, used to race when he was young on the old steel frame bikes with quill stems, told be that he has rode on 19mm tyres before and said "you absolutely fly on that width" |
Weight does factor into the equation, but the definite trend, even amongst professionals would tend to be lighter than recreational riders is to go to wider tires.
And those 19mm tires, pumped to rcok hard only felt fast. We know have the data to know they actually are slower. I used to TT on 18mm tires when I was young and didn't know better. Your also getting a very small contact patch for cornering on a highly inflated 20mm tire. And those 19mm tires from the old days were likely tubulars, not clinchers |
in the past, i used 20mm 700c tires, but have moved up to 23's. i still run 20's on my old 27" clincher rims though and find them fine at 80PSI. but, i agree 20's are out of fashion and they may have found it difficult to unload them. it happens a lot with tires, IME. often with tires of various colors.
aren't you going to tell us where you found them? or are you going to keep it to yourself? :) nevermind... with a little digging i found them at Planet-x. ya, 20mm and yellow. i put a couple in my basket and the tally was, after all was said and done, $87.86 for the pair. homey don't play dat. |

i agree, if you can get them locally, i guess.
i've pretty much have moved to the Vittoria Corsa line of tires, except for touring, in both clincher and tubular. but i'll admit i run ultra lite tuffy tire liners in them, because where i ride, thorns are a menace and buying thorn proof tires is not cost-effective, nor do i find them as pleasant to ride on as regular tires. |
