Road Cycling Sun Valley/Ketchum Idaho Area

Notices
Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Road Cycling Sun Valley/Ketchum Idaho Area

I can't find Idaho in the regional fields so I'll post here. We are looking to take our road bikes to the Sun Valley/Ketchum area this summer and would like information about routes, paved trails, etc. Can anybody direct me? Thanks

Idaho is (kinda) part of the Pacific Northwest. It is listed in the heading here: Pacific Northwest

I've spent some time in Sun Valley many, many summers. Cycling there is a lot of fun. I'm not able to offer much in the way of specific details/links (beyond what you can Google). There are paved trails that connect Sun Valley and Elkhorn with Ketchum and a converted railroad line that extends north of town a little bit and quite a ways south (to Hailey). The big climbing challenge is Galena summit (north on Hwy 75). If that's a bit much, still make it a point to drive up there to (at least) view the Sawtooth Range. You'll have a great time.

Thank you for your response dtrain. I had heard that there is a road that runs along a river but that's all I know. I will keep searching.

The whole area is called the Wood River Valley. Hwy 75 follows the river for a number of miles, as does the rails-to-trails paved route (Hailey to Ketchum). The trail keeps you off the main highway and crosses the river a few times. It's really a very nice cruise.

North of Ketchum, I see bikes on Hwy 75 itself with plenty of room to spare. There are a few other routes from Ketchum as well (like Trail Creek Road). There are some bike stores in town (w/ rentals) could suggest other routes as well.
