Raleigh Portage Touring Bike Needs Work

$200.00 plus shipping.
GREAT BIKE to fix and ride or flip. BUT, yes, it needs work (see below).

As you know, if you are into such things, the Portage was billed as Raleigh's top of the line Touring Bike and I think it was the first with "off road wheels." Amazing frame with full braze-ons and then some. Gruppo and accessories were near top of the line (for the time).
Purchased new for about $600.00, back in 1983 or 1984.

Selling "as is." I put this away when I stopped riding drop handlebars.
My height is 5' 9" and 31" inseam.

Not ridden much. Not ridden at all for 24 years - stored in the home.

Problems: obviously needs tires and tubes, lube, maybe cables. One side of the top tube and decal was scuffed during storage (see photo). The rear rack is missing.

This is a world-class, famous vintage bicycle. Fairly rare. Great ride. Great for loaded touring, off-road touring, camping touring, or just riding around town. Probably not a bad Bug-Out Bike. I planned to hybridize it with upright handlebars, but the heck with that, I need a camera tripod :-)

Check it out.

The Portage has sold for the asked for price. Is it customary to delete the thread? Or will it have some historical interest :-) Just let me know. Thanks.

This bike is still for sale, at the same asking price of $200.00 plus postage.
My prior buyer turned out to be a scammer, who sounded good, but sent me a cashiers check for $1250.00 with a request to deposit it and send the balance to a Moneygram account. :-)

I contacted the original seller to get info and after showing him how/what to measure he told me the bike was a 21" frame and was sold for $200 to the "scammer" and then was sold to a real buyer for $200. That buyer then flipped it and sold it about 2 weeks later for $425. From the 2nd seller's Facebook post:
"New brake pads, new 650bx38 Panaracer tires and tubes, 3 new blackburn bottle cages, new Silicon handle grips (same style as original with modern technology/materials). original pedals, but unfortunately missing original pedal cages and straps (i have a set to include, not pictured). original seat with integral allen tool. original front and rear racks. perfect for touring or commuting. 21" 555 cromoly DB frame, approx 31" standover height. Any other parts not specifically mentioned are original. Included is one of the original water bottles."
