I use a 10 speed on my bike and my girlfriend uses an 8 speed. I fitted a 10 speed cassette on trainer wheel because i use the trainer more. Her bike works ok still but not in certain gears.

The sensor being on the back wheel, so can be used on a trainer, is a big plus...
