Bar end shifters and maybe an inline seatpost would be nice upgrades, otherwise leave it as it is.

Of cause you won't drawn, if you swim in a wetsuit the swimming leg will pretty easy so if you got the endurance to combine all of it you should be fine.

If you're not really that strong yet a tall gear is really annoying, yeah it's doable but you have to mash up all the hills, and for city commuting 48/17 or 18 is much more fun and you can still go...

Just swap to 48/18 or 42/16 and you should be fine.
It's also more fun when you are more in control.

and i'm not really a fan of riser stems either.
