My first and last brand new "good" bike (owned several beaters since then) was a Gitane Tour de France bought in 1971 or '72 for a little over $200 ... think it was $204 or $206 ... plus shipping....

Hi. Geezer (almost 61) who just bought a beater fixed-gear conversion. For exercise on mostly flat land, not for tricks, not for touring, not for commuting.

All my biking life I used drop bars...
