I agree, lube is lube. I've even used chainsaw lube from a spray can (convenient means of dispersal) and it seemed to work good. I've seem some shimano chains with (reportedly) 1K miles on them dry...

I think all the bikes here are hot in their own way. Not everything needs to be built in 'race ready' fashion, bikes should be built to suit the riding that the rider will actually be doing.
