If reliability and ruggedness were the top priorities, my choice would be the Montague Paratrooper or Swiss series. Frames only are available if you wanted to roll your own.

The decision is made and bike ordered. I did not go with the Paratrooper Pro and instead went with the x70 Swiss Bike. The x70 had Deore components, better fork, and a nicer looking paint job (IMO)....
