Pc 971 is a 9 speed chain... pc 1071 is a 10...

Pc 971 is a 9 speed chain... pc 1071 is a 10 speed chain. If you used pc971 on a 10 speed cassete, that could be the cause of the noise.

Have you tired to run that setup with no gear cable? u would isolate the issue, see that without the cable connected if its still making the same sound on the high and lowest gear.
